However, recent outages seem to be impacting those who access pirated or “cracked” versions of the Spotify app. As a result, outlets like Tech Times have speculated that the music giant could be experimenting with ways to stop these pirated accounts.

Is Spotify Down?

No, Spotify is not down. It remains accessible to most users. However, there have been reports of the Spotify app not working properly.
These began around 3 March, with users in the UK, Italy and beyond claiming that they have had trouble accessing tracks. The website health site DownDetector received around 4000 complaints and users quickly took to Reddit to air their grievances.
“This morning I was listening to spotify, then, it stopped working,” posted one user, starting a new thread to house discussions on the topic.
Many of the users affected used APKs – or Android Package Kits – to access the cracked versions of the app on Android operating systems.
“My APK is the same one that my girlfriend is using and it totally works for her but for me, it says that “the app needs to be updated” and not even the actual songs appear anymore.”
Fans started throwing around ideas as to why the app would stop working, with one user saying they hoped the app hasn’t blocked “users’ accounts they filed as cracked users.”
This was echoed in another comment.
“From what I can tell they’ve managed to somehow brick the apks. I’ve tried both Spotify lite and Spotify apks and neither work.
It continued, adding: “The old ones don’t either. It’s impressive. But the accounts are not banned. You can still listen on the web player (I know, ads) but the problem is not banned acc, but rather bricked apks.”
Spotify Premium APK not working
Fans have suggested a handful of reasons why Spotify APKs have stopped working.
These include the owners of the service trying out A/B testing of some anti-piracy measures. These would impact some accounts and not others to find out whether these new blocking techniques work effectively.
Other theories include that Spotify is working with Google’s Play Integrity API which detects users who are accessing altered or illegitimate versions of apps. If found, access would be blocked.
Thirdly, some fans believe Spotify has altered its app code in such a way that hackers are now finding it difficult to find workarounds and access its premium features.
