Filming for Euphoria season 3 is well underway, but is missing a certain someone. Yes, Barbie Ferreira sadly left the show after two seasons in August 2022, but is speaking out about her relationship with the cast now. On the HBO drama created by Sam Levinson, Ferreira played Kat Hernandez, a plus-size high school student who ends up doing sex work online. The storyline was highly criticized, but many thought it was empowering to see a plus-size woman in a position of power.

Euphoria season 2 premiered in January 2022 and fans noticed a key detail: Kat had no storyline. A central focus of season 2 was the relationship of Cassie Howard (Sydney Sweeney) and Nate Jacobs (Jacob Elordi), but Kat’s storyline? Non-existent. Most of season 2 consisted of Kat’s character being assassinated and her getting the ick from her boyfriend Ethan (Austin Abrams).

Why did Barbie Ferreira leave Euphoria?

In summary, the actress left the show because her character had run her course and did not have a storyline. Speaking on The Viall Files’ Podcast, she said: “I think it was very mutual so it wasn’t just my choice. There was just nowhere to go and I think instead of me just lingering around for nine months, I think it was best for both of us that we just kind of ended it there.”

She announced her exit in a post in the summer of 2022, which has since been deleted.

She elaborated, “But you don’t want to ruin a good thing,” she continued. “Everyone decided there was nowhere to go and that’s hard, obviously. Again, with acting, things happen all the time and you have to have a thick skin and just make the right decisions for you and your career.”

Also on the podcast, Ferreira spoke about her current relationship with the show’s cast. Find out what she said here.

Setting the record straight, the 28-year-old first clarified she “did not walk off set,” despite rumors about the show’s set seeming hellish to work on. Thankfully, Ferreira revealed she is still good friends with some of the show stars, including Sydney Sweeney, Hunter Schafer, and Maude Apatow.

“I saw Hunter the other day, I saw Maude the other day, Sydney came to see my play,” she shared. “So I mean they’re all so busy. I mean, I’ve been out of town for, like, eight months so I’m like, whoever is in town, we always try to see each other and they came to support the play, which was really sweet.”

The actress starred on Broadway in a play called Cult of Love. This month, Ferreira’s new movie Bob Trevino Likes It will be released. She plays Lily Trevino.

Ferreira opened up about the death of her co-star Angus Cloud. Cloud played Fezco on the show, a drug dealer and close friend of Rue’s (Zendaya). He sadly passed away in July 2023 from an accidental drug overdose.

Speaking on Cloud’s passing, she said: “I don’t think I’ve ever been through anything like that. We all were just really affected by it.”

The Euphoria star also spoke about Cloud’s character, calling him the “coolest guy, the craziest dude”. Continuing, she praised him, remarking he was “incredible” and a “complete sweetheart.”

Now everybody is cutting onions!

Euphoria is scheduled to be released sometime in 2026.
