- Two fan-favorite characters have confirmed to reappear

Two iconic fan-favorite characters from the Dexter universe have signed on to return for Dexter: Resurrection.
This new sequel series to 2021 sequel series Dexter: New Blood was confirmed back in summer 2024. It’ll reunite us with everyone’s favourite TV serial killer Dexter Morgan (Michael C. Hall) who – light spoiler warning – met a very definitive looking end the last time we saw him.

His Dark Passenger must’ve been looking out for him though because it’s looking like Dexter hasn’t hung up his knife just yet.
Joining Hall are a number of stars from the original Dexter series – with two new names jumping aboard that are guaranteed to please long-time viewers.

As confirmed by Deadline, legacy stars John Lithgow and Jimmy Smits will return for Dexter: Resurrection.
The latter played Miguel Prado, a law man who was fascinated with Dexter’s murderous streak. Meanwhile, the Lithgow played Arthur Mitchell AKA the Trinity Killer in one of the original show’s strongest storylines.
What has John Lithgow said about returning in Dexter: Resurrection?

Lithgow’s Trinity Killer formed one of the most loved story arcs in the original Dexter series. Once Dexter discovered the identity of this notorious small-town murderer, he put an end to his crimes in a nail biting showdown that hit our hero close to home.
The Trinity Killer appeared briefly in flash-back form in 2021’s Dexter: New Blood. According to the actor, it looks like his return will take a similar form in Dexter: Resurrection.
“They’re rebooting the entire Michael C. Hall version of ‘Dexter.’ And it turns out he didn’t die after all,” Lithgow told Variety earlier this year. “I come back sort of as a phantom, as he gradually comes to life on a hospital bed.”
When we last saw Dexter, it looked like his killing days were behind him. However, in Dexter: Resurrection, we might see his hallucination-filled road to recovery.
Who else is starring in the show?

Lithgow and Smits aren’t the only returning stars set for Dexter: Resurrection.
They’ll be joined by David Zayas’ cap-loving cop Angel Batista and James Remar as the lingering ghost of Dexter’s dad Harry Morgan.
Dexter: New Blood star Jack Alcott will be back too as Dexter’s son Harrison.
Together, they’ll be joined by newcomers like Uma Thurman, Peter Dinklage, Krysten Ritter, Steve Schrippa and David Dastmalchian among others.
