If you’re taking lunch to work with you, then you’re going to need a sandwich bag to keep it safe. But would you want one from Louis Vuitton that retails for more than $3,000?
Well, if you do you can now own one, as the luxury bag – which has been designed to resemble the classic US paper sandwich bag – went on sale on January 4 at Louis Vuitton’s pop-up store in West Hollywood costing a cool $3,130.
The bag has been introduced by record producer and designer Pharrell Williams, who was named as men’s creative director of the iconic fashion brand last year. But rather than paper, the bag is made from cowhide leather – in the same colour as Louis Vuitton’s famous shopping bags – and includes the iconic ‘Louis Vuitton’ and ‘Maison Fondée En 1854’ lettering and a blue fastening. The top of the bag has been designed to look as if it is being folded over, just like the paper ones are. Inside, there is a zipped pocket and a double flat pocket to keep things organised.
It was first seen on the catwalk during Williams’ debut collection on the Pont Neuf in Paris last June, when it appeared under the arm of models.
This isn’t the first time Louis Vuitton has taken inspiration from humble – and cheap – everyday things and reimagined them as high fashion items. In 2007, the fashion house came out with a bag inspired by the chequered plastic laundry bags that are known the world over and in 2022 there was a paint-can shaped cross-body bag launched.
It does raise the question, however, if your sandwich bag is worth $3,000 then what sort of sandwich are you putting in it? Something more exotic than pastrami on rye? Let us know in the comments.
