A new trailer for the forthcoming Tron: Ares has offered a teaser of Nine Inch Nails’ score for the film.

The dramatic trailer features a moving car being split in half among other futuristic action sequences, all set to the juddering sounds of Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross’ score. We also briefly get to see Jared Leto in action as the film’s titular protagonist.

At one point, we hear a voice saying: “I’m looking for something, something I do not understand.”

The film will also feature some brand new Nine inch Nails songs. They take over the musical side of the film franchise from Daft Punk, who scored Tron: Legacy and broke up in 2021.

Reznor and Ross lent their talents to the soundtracks of recent films such as Queer and Challengers. During awards season, film fans expressed widespread shock at the pair being snubbed for an Oscar for best original score. They did, however, win the Golden Globe in the same category.

Reznor has also worked on music for films such as Empire Of Light, The Girl with The Dragon Tattoo and Gone Girl.

Tron: Ares is the third film in Disney’s Tron franchise after the 1982 original and the 2010 sequel Tron: Legacy. It follows a “highly sophisticated Program, Ares, who is sent from the digital world into the real world on a dangerous mission, marking humankind’s first encounter with A.I. beings.”

Joachim Rønning helmed the film, which stars Jared Leto as Ares, an A.I being who is sent from the digital world to the real world on a dangerous mission.

Jeff Bridges reprises his role as Kevin Flynn. Bridges has featured in both of the past chapters of TRON.

Tron: Ares will arrive in theaters on 10 October, 2025, including IMAX 3D.

The road to the sequel has been rather bumpy. A sequel to Tron: Legacy was confirmed in 2015 but Disney scrapped the plans, potentially relating to their purchase of Marvel and Lucasfilm.

However, in 2023, it seemed a third Tron film was back on. Production began later than planned due to the Hollywood strikes that year.
