- Thirty years after the movie, a sequel TV series is being made
- Alicia Silverstone is on board to reprise her role of Cher Horowitz
- New series will be on Peacock

Totally buggin… yes, Cher Horowitz is coming back to our screens as Peacock has confirmed a sequel series to the iconic 1995 movie Clueless is in development.
And in more great news for fans of the film about the shopaholic fashionista, Alicia Silverstone is returning to slip back into Cher’s heels. The new show will be a continuation from the original movie.
What was Clueless about?
Clueless focused on the life of rich, popular California teen Cher Horowitz. In this coming-of-age comedy Cher wants to do ‘good deeds’ and helps a new student by giving her a makeover. She also sought to matchmake her teachers, while also examining her own life.
The movie was a big hit at the theater and on video and has become considered one of the best teen movies of all time.
The plot was – loosely – based on Emma by Jane Austen
Who is returning for the Clueless series
While Silverstone has been confirmed, there has been as yet no confirmation if other stars from the original movie will be returning. The film had a strong cast, and some, such as Paul Rudd, have gone on to be megastars. Other stars included Stacey Dash, Donald Faison, Justin Walker, Breckin Meyer, Elisa Donovan and Jeremy Sisto.
Rudd will be reprising his role as Ant-Man in Avengers: Doomsday, so whether he has time to return remains to be seen.
Likewise, we have no details on any new cast members.
But some of the team behind the original movie are returning. Amy Heckerling, who wrote and directed the 1995 original is on board as an executive producer, as is original producer Robert Lawrence.
What will be the plot?
As yet, there are no details of what the plot of the show will be. All the studio has said is that it is a follow-up to the 1995 film, according to Variety.
But given that film was a generation ago, it would seem likely that the new series will focus on Cher as she navigates middle age. Could she now have a teenage daughter of her own?
Have there been other Clueless series?
Yes. A follow-up TV series of the same name ran for three seasons from 1996-99 on ABC and then UPN in the US, with Rachel Blanchard taking over as Cher, although Dash, Donovan and Faison did reprise their roles from the movie. The show followed Cher and her friends’ continuing adventures in teenage life.
There was also a planned Clueless series earlier this decade, which would have seen Cher disappear and focus on her friend Dionne’s attempts to find her. However, this project – which was put together by a different creative team to this show – did not move forward in the end.
When will we see the Clueless series?
A date for release has not yet been set. However, the series is in development, which means production could start soon. If that is the case, then a release date of sometime in the first half of 2026 could be made.
