The Last of Us season two is back with a bang, and audiences are already losing their mind.

Based on the video game series of the same name, it follows grieving father Joel (Pedro Pascal) and Ellie (Bella Ramsey) across the United States amid a plague of bacteria-ridden zombies. She is believed to be the ticket who might save society from the spreading disease.

However, some viewers were extra shocked by the second episode. The first followed the ragtag pair as they settled into life with Joel’s brother, Tommy (Gabriel Luna), in Jackson. However, danger seemed afoot with Abby (Kaitlyn Dever) being lurked on by some some the infected.

The moment that really gagged people was how Abby got her five years later on Joel by killing him. Many were inspired to take to the internet to express their shock about the ending of one of the series’ most beloved and central characters.

What did the internet say about Joel’s death in The Last of Us

Obviously, everyone was saddened by the development as Pascal was one of the leading characters. Much has been made about his on-screen dynamic with Ramsey. Some lauded it a triumph from start to finish.

“That was genuinely one of the best episodes of television ever. The writing, the dialogue, the action, the tension building up, the sense of danger hanging over the entirety of the episode, the action, and of course the incredible acting performances,” someone wrote on X.

Another pointed out how Joel doomed himself by acting to save another kid just like Ellie.

They said, “the fact that Joel saw another kid in danger and didn’t doubt in saving her…. dooming himself.”

Some where prepared

“Me watching Joel die even though I played the game,” another added.

Another added, “this is actually 10x worse than i thought it would be”
