After a cameo in The Marvels as the X-Man Beast, Kelsey Grammer has opened up about the possibility of reprising the role in Avengers: Doomsday.

Grammer – who is most famous for playing neurotic psychiatrist Fraiser Crane for more than 35 years in Cheers and Frasier – spoke on the Literally! With Rob Lowe podcast about his role (via ScreenRant) and the potential for a bigger role in the MCU.

He played Beast/Dr Hank McCoy in two of the Fox-era X-Men films, X-Men: The Last Stand (2006) and X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014). The role was played by Nicholas Hoult in the subsequent prequel films.

Beast reaction

Grammer then reprised his role as Beast in a small cameo in a post-credits scene in The Marvels in 2023, which was enthusiastically received by fans. “I did a little scene… and then it showed,” Grammer told Lowe. “They put it in theaters. And the response when they saw Beast was apparently pretty breathtaking, and that was my ticket. They [Marvel] called me a while later and said: ‘We think we want to put you in another movie.”

What movie this is could well be Avengers: Doomsday. “I’ve had a preliminary introduction to the idea,” he said. “They are still very secretive about the script.”

What comments could mean for Avengers: Doomsday

We know that the X-Men are gradually being introduced into the MCU, with several having already made their debut in a big way – such as Wolverine – or in small cameos, such as Beast and Professor X, who appeared briefly in Dr Strange and the Multiverse of Madness.

How, or what role Beast and the other X-Men might play is the subject of huge speculation and anticipation from fans.

Grammer has not been officially named in the cast for Avengers: Doomsday yet – he wasn’t part of the casting announcement stunt a while back – but it is known that Marvel didn’t reveal all the cast members at that event.

It also demonstrates how secretive Marvel are being with this movie. There is already huge hype around the film, especially since it was revealed that Robert Downey Jr would be playing Doctor Doom, and Marvel are now being even more cagey about what happens than usual. Expect more reveals, rumours and probably misdirection before Avengers: Doomsday hits theaters in summer next year.
