It’s a new year and, as always, there is a raft of new and returning shows dropping on streaming services in January – here are some of the best.

While Christmas is a great time to binge watch box sets of shows you may have missed during the year, or just re-watching old favourites, when it comes to a new year, you want something new to watch. But, as ever, streaming services have you covered.
With a new year always comes a range of new and returning shows on streaming services, and 2026 is shaping up to be a hugely exciting year of TV already. Here is our selection of six of the best shows that are debuting on streaming services this month.
Bridgerton season 4
Netflix’s epic period drama is back for another season of romantic romping at the end of January. This season, the focus of the show shifts to second son Benedict Bridgerton and his love story. Benedict meets the determined and captivating Sophie, in the first episode of the new season at Lady Bridgerton’s masquerade ball, but it emerges that she is not all as she seems – but will love be able to overcome the hurdles placed between them?
Hijack season 2
January 14 sees the return of Hijack to Apple TV+. Starring (and executive produced by) Idris Elba – or Sir Idris Elba as he now is, thanks to being knighted in King Charles III New Year’s Honours list – this eight-episode season centers on an underground train in Berlin that is captured and its passengers taken hostage. Sam Nelson is at the heart of the crisis as he tries to save hundreds of lives, but well aware that one wrong decision could result in disaster.
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms
The Game of Thrones universe continues its expansion with another prequel series, which is on HBO Max. A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is set 100 years before Game of Thrones and focuses on the adventures of young knight Ser Duncan the Tall, and his squire, Egg, through the kingdom of Westeros.
At this time, the Targaryens control the Iron Throne, and, as the logline states: “the memory of the last dragon has not yet passed from living memory [and] great destinies, powerful foes, and dangerous exploits all await these improbable and incomparable friends.”
Tell Me Lies season 3
Tell Me Lies returns for a third season on Disney+, continuing the story of the relationship between Lucy Albright and Stephen DeMarco. The pair met at college, and the show follows the ramifications of the decisions they make at that time over the course of the next eight years, as their addictive relationship permanently alters their lives and those of people around them.
The Traitors season 4
The fourth season of hit reality series The Traitors drops on Peacock this month. A new all-star squad of faithfuls and traitors join host Alan Cumming in the Scottish castle for more mind-melting skullduggery. Stars in the cast this time include Donna Kelce – soon to be Taylor Swift’s mother-in-law – and figure skater Tara Lipinski.
In addition, the fourth season of the UK version of The Traitors is also out this month, which is also worth watching. That is airing on BBC in the UK and is available via iPlayer and a VPN.
The Rip
This Netflix action thriller reunites old friends Matt Damon and Ben Affleck in the starring roles. The action centers on a group of Miami cops who find millions in cash stashed away. But as outsiders learn of the huge seizure it sparks distrust as the team question who they can rely on.
