Demi Moore has been confirmed as a leading part of the cast for culinary thriller Tyrant – the much-anticipated debut movie from Hunters creator David Weil.

As revealed by The Hollywood Reporter, Demi joins fellow Hollywood stars Charlize Theron and Julia Garner in the movie, which is billed as a high-stakes thriller set in the elite fine dining scene in New York. Production is expected to begin later this month or in early May.

This casting continues Demi’s strong acting run recently. In 2024 she was nominated for an Oscar for her performance in The Substance, and has received positive reviews for her role as Cami Miller in oil drama Landman, which is heading for a third season.

But how much do you know about Demi Moore? Here are some facts you might not know about her.

Her big break was on General Hospital

Demi had worked as a model at the beginning of her career as a teenager, but quickly moved into acting, appearing in her first movie in 1981 – it was called Choices and wasn’t a hit.

Her big break came in 1983 when she was cast in long-running soap opera General Hospital as investigative reporter Jackie Templeton, a role she played for about a year.

She was associated with the ‘Brat Pack’ but hated the label

After General Hospital, Demi started appearing in more high-profile movies, including 1985’s St Elmo’s Fire, where she played an uninhibited banker. That movie was a commercial success and catapulted her to stardom, and she was included in a group of young up-and-coming actors who liked to party called the ‘Brat Pack’ as a result. Other members included Molly Ringwald, Emilio Estevez, Rob Lowe and Ally Sheedy.

But Demi didn’t like being included in the group, saying it was ‘demeaning’ and she had nothing to do with it.

However, despite renouncing the label, she is the actor who has had the longest-lasting success of any of that cohort.

She is an avid doll collector

Away from acting, Demi has a passion for collecting dolls. Indeed, The New York Times called her ‘the world’s most high-profile doll collector’. It has been reported that she owns more than 2,000 dolls and has a separate house to keep them all in.

It has been reported that one of her favourite dolls is a Gene Marshall fashion doll – these are 15.5-inch tall dolls that are inspired by the Golden Age of Hollywood from the 1930s-50s and, when launched in 1995, were one of the first to be aimed at adult collectors.

She became the world’s highest paid actress in 1995

By 1995, after appearing in a string of hit movies such as Ghost and Indecent Proposal, she was arguably the biggest female actress in the world. Of course, with such status comes big fees for appearing in movies. For her role as an FBI secretary-turned-stripper in Striptease in 1996, Demi was paid $12.5 million – a record at the time.

However, while the movie performed respectably at the box office, critics disliked it – and she even received a Golden Raspberry – or Razzie – as Worst Actress for it.

She has supported many charities

Demi has supported many charities over the years, including the American Foundation for AIDS Research, UNICEF and the Coalition to Abolish Slavery and Trafficking. She also launched a non-profit governmental organisation in 2009 with then-husband Ashton Kutcher to fight child sexual slavery.
