- Nintendo says announcement on new console will be made before March 2025
- Boss of Nintendo confirmed on X the existence of a Switch successor
- Further titles to be released on Switch this year

The boss of Nintendo has finally given an update about the successor console to the Switch – but the announcement is that there is no announcement, at least not yet.
Shuntaro Furukawa, president of Nintendo has confirmed that an update on the successor to the Switch will be made sometime between now and March 2025.
But that update won’t come before or during next month’s Nintendo Direct event, which provides a showcase for upcoming Nintendo releases. Nintendo regularly holds Direct events during a year.
Posting on X – the platform formerly known as Twitter – Furukawa said: “We will make an announcement about the successor to Nintendo Switch within this fiscal year.”
He added that the upcoming Nintendo Direct would be centred on the “Nintendo Switch software line-up for the latter half of 2024.
“But please be aware that there will be no mention of the Nintendo Switch successor during that presentation.”
The Nintendo Switch has been hugely popular since it was launched in 2017, and the console has sold more than 130 million units worldwide since then.
While there has been plenty of speculation about the release date for the Switch successor [link: https://pubity.com/nintendo-switch-2-release-could-be-delayed-until-2025] – it was originally thought it would be released late this year – Nintendo itself has been tight-lipped about it for months.
What form the Switch successor – or Switch 2 as it has been nicknamed online – will take is also the subject of intense speculation, given the lack of information from the company. It is thought likely that it will be an upgrade on the Switch, but until Nintendo confirms its plans we won’t know for sure.
