She’s one of the biggest pop icons in the world.

So buckle up, Britney Spears fans – as a biopic about the singer’s life is officially in the works!

After releasing her tell-all memoir, The Woman in Me, in October last year, the singer, 41, teased the upcoming project to her followers on Twitter/X this week.

“Excited to share with my fans that I’ve been working on a secret project with #MarcPlatt. He’s always made my favorite movies … stay tuned,” Spears confirmed.

Platt is a producer who is perhaps best known for creating the Legally Blonde franchise, which starred Reese Witherspoon.

Universal picked up the rights to the movie in a highly competitive auction, and director Jon M. Chu – the man behind Crazy Rich Asians, and the upcoming two-part musical adaptation of Wicked – is developing the biopic.

As of yet, it’s unknown who will play Spears in the movie about her colorful life.

Justin said that we weren’t ready’

Spears’s book was a huge success, selling 2.5 million copies in the United States alone, with the audiobook being narrated by Oscar nominated actor Michelle Williams.

While it is unclear exactly what parts of the book the biopic will focus on, the movie deal may come as a shock to some – including Spears’s ex-boyfriend, Justin Timberlake

The Cry Me a River singer, 42 – who was recently arrested for a DUI – was painted in a particularly negative light in Spears’s book, after the couple had a very high-profile, three-year relationship together until March 2002 .

The Oops!…I Did It Again singer candidly recalled undergoing a secret abortion at the age of 19 in 2000, as Timberlake didn’t think the pair were ready to become parents at such a young age.

“It [the pregnancy] was a surprise, but for me, it wasn’t a tragedy,” wrote Spears. “I loved Justin so much. I always expected us to have a family together one day. This would just be much earlier than I’d anticipated.

“He said we weren’t ready to have a baby in our lives, that we were way too young. I’m sure people will hate me for this, but I agreed not to have the baby.

“I don’t know if that was the right decision. If it had been left up to me alone, I never would have done it. And yet Justin was so sure that he didn’t want to be a father.”

She added, “Abortion was something I never could have imagined choosing for myself, but given the circumstances, that is what we did.”
