  • Sid was a two-time WWE and two-time WCW World Champion
  • Real name Sid Eudy, he headlined two WrestleManias, against Hulk Hogan and The Undertaker
  • Eudy was 63 and had been battling cancer

Sid Eudy, better known by his in-ring personas Sid Vicious, Sid Justice and Sycho Sid, has passed away at the age of 63, following a battle with cancer. The news of the former World Champion pro-wrestler’s passing was shared by his son on Facebook earlier today (August 26).

Eudy was a two-time WWE Champion, defeating Shawn Michaels at Survivor Series 1996 in Madison Square Garden for his first championship reign and then Bret ‘The Hitman’ Hart shortly before WrestleMania 13, in 1997. He made two appearances at WrestleMania, headlining both times, first against Hulk Hogan at WrestleMania VIII in 1992 and then against The Undertaker at WrestleMania 13, five years later.

The former world champion is also one of only five wrestlers to headline both WrestleMania and WCW’s marquee event Starrcade.

As news of Eudy’s passing broke, countless major names shared their condolences and memories of the man fans across the globe knew as the Master and Ruler of the World.

Eudy worked across multiple promotions during his wrestling career, most notably the National Wrestling Alliance, WCW and WWE. He also held the United States Wrestling Association’s World Title twice during his spell working in Memphis with WWE Hall of Famer, Jerry ‘The King’ Lawler. The former multiple time champion was notable for his high profile feuds with Sting, Hulk Hogan, The Undertaker, Bret Hart, Shawn Michaels, The British Bulldog, Kevin Nash and Goldberg.

Despite suffering what many believed to be a career ending injury in January, 2001 at WCW’s Sin PPV, when an awkward fall from an attempted aerial manoeuvre led to Eudy horrifically snapping his tibia and fibula on his left leg, essentially snapping the leg in half. Visuals of the accident have done the rounds online for years but, despite the horrendous nature of the injury, three-and-a-half years later, Eudy was able to restart his career as an active in-ring performer, taking bookings on the independent scene. He would wrestle his final match in August, 2017, defeating Paul Rosenberg at a show in Ottawa, Canada, for Great North Wrestling.

Rest In Peace, Sid.
