Updates on the progress of Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse have been conspicuous by their absence in recent months, and Miles G Morales’ voice actor shares those frustrations.

In the dark

In an interview with ScreenRant, while talking about his role in Unstoppable, Jharrel Jerome, who voices Miles G Morales in the Spider-Verse movies, as he was “as much in the dark as you” about the progress of the film.

Jerome added that, while he was looking forward to reprising his role, he hasn’t yet got back into the studio to record anything.

“I can’t really say much more because, you know, that’s such a tight ship,” he added. “I don’t even know much. I’m as much in the dark as you, but I’m excited to get back into it and see what they’re thinking, especially involving my character.”

This rather opaque update is in keeping with the film. Little has been released about the plot of the film, other than it picks up from the end of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. Jerome’s comments give little away – but that is to be expected. With the animation process, voice actors can record their dialogue at various points in the production process and they don’t all have to be together to do it.

Rumors denied

This is the first update on the film for months, however. Back in September, rumors emerged that large parts of what had already been produced for Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse had been scrapped. This was quickly denied by two people involved in the making of the film.

Elsewhere, it is thought that Sony is concentrating on Spider-Man again, following the relatively poor performance of its films in the Sony Spider-Man Universe (SSU). Barring the Venom trilogy, Sony’s SSU films have not been hits at the box office or critics – with newly-released Kraven The Hunter also not expected to do well.
