• Stars flocked to the BAFTA TV Awards last Sunday (May 12)
  • While the event celebrated the best talent in television, the Internet – of course – couldn’t help joking about moments from the ceremony, and created several memes for the occasion
  • Fans went wild for Joe Lycett’s outfit, Hannah Waddingham’s cheeky tipple and Lorraine Kelly’s acceptance of the Special award

It’s one of the biggest nights in the awards circuit calendar.

And last weekend, stars flocked in their droves to the BAFTA television awards, hoping to bag one of the coveted accolades.

Held at the Royal Festival Hall in London, the ceremony was hosted by comedians Romesh Ranganathan and Rob Beckett, and saw talent such as Matthew Macfadyen, Timothy Spall and Jasmine Jobson take home various gongs.

But as with any celeb bash, the Internet did its thing – and took to Twitter/X to bring us some truly remarkable memes based on the event.

Here’s a roundup of our favorite…

After comedian Joe Lycett lost a bet to his real-life aunties, he attended the ceremony dressed as Queen Elizabeth I… of course.

Much to the chagrin of the lucky guest sat behind him

Lycett was only upstaged by the nation’s sweetheart Hannah Waddingham – who had a cheeky tipple after losing out on the Entertainment award

Even fellow TV personality and comedian Judi Love seemed less than impressed with the scoop

And others felt presenter Brian Cox hadn’t been given all the facts when it came to the ‘real’ Lorraine Kelly

Some were outraged that BBC sensation Happy Valley didn’t take home the Best Drama Series award

Although Sarah Lancashire did win the Leading Actress award for her role as Catherine Cawood – but fans were confused by her accent

And believed her character’s fashion choices should have won an award of their own!

Others were stunned at the random Peaky Blinders dance tribute

And while he may have lost out on a BAFTA (again!) this year, fans went wild for this little hint from David Tennant about his pal, Michael Sheen…
