The Game Of Thrones universe never seems to stop expanding. Alongside a myriad of new prequels in development, we’ll soon delve further into the history of its universe with a new season of House Of The Dragon.
Prior to the transmission of the third season, HBO confirmed that House Of The Dragon had already been renewed. Chances are, there may have been some movement towards getting season three of the ground, but we’re unlikely to see it for a while.

But what do we know about House Of The Dragon’s third outing so far?
What is House Of The Dragon season three about?

Showrunner Ryan Condal confirmed that four major events from the books would unravel in season three.
One of these will be Battle of the Gullet, the most devastating naval battle in the books.
“Season 2 is huge. Season 3 is huger, in many ways,” Condal told Gold Derby. “There are, by my quick count on stage, four major events from the book that we get to adapt and realize in three dimensions in this season. That’s really exciting on a scope-and-scale perspective, and I think it’s the thing the show does really well.”

In a first for the show, one of the episodes will have a new “character driven” format.
“The things that we’re building are mind-boggling. But what I’m most excited about from a dramatic perspective is that we got to have a little fun this season, and there’s a conceptual episode, meaning that it isn’t in the traditional vernacular of what we’ve laid out as the structure of a House of the Dragon episode. It’s very character-driven, and I think it’s really great and I’m really excited to see it rendered.”
Who is in the cast?
Surprisingly for anything related to Game Of Thrones, season two of House Of The Dragon had a fairly low body count.
Consequently, this means we can hopefully expect to see lots of returning cast members.
These could include Emma D’Arcy as Rhaenyra Targaryen, Matt Smith as Daemon Targaryen, Olivia Cooke as Alicent Hightower, Tom Glynn-Carney as King Aegon II Targaryen, Ewan Mitchell as Aemond Targaryen, Rhys Ifans as Otto Hightower, Steve Toussaint as Corlys Velaryon and Fabien Frankel as Ser Criston Cole.
When will it be released?
House Of The Dragon returns every other year and writing begun on season 3 before it was officially commissioned so production could keep to this schedule.
Production is slowly starting up again as cast members confirmed on their Instagram Stories that the first table read for the season had taken place. Meanwhile, the sets have been constructed too.
Chances are, season 3 will hit our screens sometime in 2026.
