- Blade Runner 2099 will be the first TV series in the franchise’s history
- Series will be set some time after the events of Blade Runner 2049
- Michelle Yeoh and Hunter Schafer previously confirmed in lead roles

As the Blade Runner 2099 series enters production, more details have been announced for the cast for this highly anticipated show.
Castings announced
Michelle Yeoh and Hunter Schafer had previously been confirmed as being cast in lead roles, but it has now been confirmed they will be joined by Dimitri Abold (best known for The Hunger Games) and Lewis Gribben (Somewhere Boy).
Other recurring guest stars on the show will include Katelynn Rose Downey (The Nun II), Johnny Harris (Great Expectations), Daniel Rigby (Renegade Nell), Amy Lennox (Only Child), Matthew Needham (House of the Dragon) and Shiela Atim (The Woman King), according to Variety.
Production has already started in Prague and will move to Barcelona and other locations in the coming months.
But while cast details have emerged, there has been nothing about which characters they will be playing in the series. Likewise, plot details have not been revealed, other than it will take place after the events of Blade Runner 2049, the 2017 sequel film to the 1982 classic. Presumably it will take place in 2099, judging by the title.
Silka Luisa has previously been announced as showrunner and executive producer on the show with Ridley Scott, who directed the first film, also serving as an executive producer. Jonathan van Tulleken is another executive producer and will also direct the first two episodes.
Small screen debut
This is the first time the Blade Runner franchise will be brought to the small screen. Scott first mentioned that Blade Runner 2099 was in the works in late 2021, although it wasn’t formally greenlit by Amazon until the September of the following year. A release date for the series hasn’t been announced.
