Arnold, who is 46, posted to the band’s account on Wednesday announcing he had some “not so good news” to share.
In the heartbreaking clip, he explained he had “been sick a couple of weeks ago and went to the hospital and got checked out”.
He continued: “I actually got the diagnosis that I have a clear cell renal carcinoma that has metastasized into my lung… and that’s stage four, and that’s not real good”.

Clear cell renal carcinoma (ccRCC) is the most common type of kidney cancer. Stage four means the cancer has spread beyond the kidney to other parts of the body – in Arnold’s case, the lung.
The singer is putting on a brave face and leaning on his faith in God for strength. “But you know what? We serve a mighty God, and He can overcome anything,” he said in the video.
It’s Not My Time
He added, “So I have no fear. I really, sincerely am not scared of it at all. But it is gonna force us to cancel our tour this summer. And we’re sorry for that”.
3 Doors Down were scheduled to kick off their U.S. tour at the Welcome to Rockville Festival in Daytona Beach, Florida, next week.
Arnold concluded his message by saying “I’d love for you to lift me up in your prayers every chance you get, and I think it’s time for me to go listen to It’s Not My Time a little bit, right? Thank you guys so much. God loves you. We love you. See you.”
It’s Not My Time was the lead single from the band’s self-titled fourth studio album, 3 Doors Down. The song’s chorus includes the lyrics “This is not my time, I’m not going…”. You can listen to the song in the video below:
