- All of Malcolm Mickerson’s siblings will feature in the new series
- But one of the original actors has been recast
- Who is playing Malcolm’s daughter has also been confirmed

The cast of the Malcolm in the Middle is growing with some familiar faces returning, as well as some new additions – including the recasting of a fan favorite.
Variety confirmed that Christopher Masterson and Justin Berfield will return as Malcolm’s elder brothers Francis and Reece respectively.
However, one actor not returning is Erik Per Sullivan, who played Dewey throughout the original series’ run from 2000-2006. Sullivan stepped away from acting a few years after the end of the show, and has settled into a non-showbiz life. He has also not appeared at past cast reunions over the years.
Rather than leave the character out of the new four-episode series, which will be shown on Disney+, the makers have decided to recast the role. Dewey will now be played by Caleb Ellworth-Clark, who has appeared in series such as Fargo in the past.
Malcolm in the Middle cast confirmations
Other Mickerson family members have also been confirmed. Anthony Timpano will play Malcolm’s youngest brother, Jamie, while Vaughan Murrae will play youngest Mickerson child Kelly.
Jamie is another recasted character. In the show, Jamie was born in season four, but not introduced as a character until season five. As a baby, Jamie was played by two sets of twin girls, while as a toddler, twins James and Lukas Rodriguez took on the role.
Kelly was not seen during the original run of Malcolm in the Middle, but during the final season it was revealed that Malcolm’s parents, Hal and Lois, were expecting a sixth child.
Another significant cast announcement is that Keeley Karsten will play Malcolm’s daughter, Leah. Previously, it had been revealed that Malcolm had a daughter, but not her name of who would be playing her. Karsten has previously appeared in The Fabelmans and Hunters.
Leah, according to Variety, has the same sarcastic sense of humor as her father, as well as the same impulsiveness and high intelligence, but is more sensitive and emotional.
Same old chaos
When the reunion series was announced last year, it was also confirmed that Frankie Muniz, who played the boy genius Malcolm, was returning, along with Hal and Lois, played by Bryan Cranston and Jane Maczmarek.
The official synopsis says that the new episodes of Malcolm in the Middle will focus on Malcolm and his daughter reconnecting with his family.
Malcolm and Leah will be drawn into the family’s chaos when Hal and Lois demand his presence for their 40th wedding anniversary party.
