Carrie Underwood is taking to the stage when Donald Trump becomes the 47th president of the United States on January 20.

A rep for the American Idol winner confirmed that she is set to sing America The Beautiful after the incoming Vice-President JD Vance takes his oath of office to Axios.

The Armed Forces Chorus and the Naval Academy Glee Club will accompany her.

Underwood is notable because the high-profile booking implies a changing wind in the entertainment’s attitude towards Trump. At his first swearing-in ceremony, there was much made about no one would be seen dead endorsing a man like Trump.

The 45th President is notable for his right-wing populist views, sexism and weird outbursts.

Trump’s election came after pop culture threw its weight behind his opponent, Kamala Harris. Many celebs like Jane Fonda, Taylor Swift and Charli xcx endorsed the current Vice-President.

What has Carrie Underwood said about politics before?

Underwood has always been adamant about remaining apolitical in the past.

“I feel like more people try to pin me places politically,” she told The Guardian in 2019. “I try to stay far out of politics if possible, at least in public, because nobody wins. It’s crazy. Everybody tries to sum everything up and put a bow on it, like it’s black and white. And it’s not like that.”

At the 2017 Country Music Awards, Underwood and her fellow country icon Brad Paisley used their performance of her classic Before He Cheats to make fun of Trump. Referencing his noted love of posting, they sang, “It’s fun to watch, yeah, that’s for sure / ’til little Rocket Man starts a nuclear war.”

What else is performing at Trump’s inauguration?

Well, we will keep you updated as the big names come in. However, noted YMCA fan Trump must be pleased with getting The Village People to perform at one of his inaugural balls.

The group wrote on Facebook, “We know this won’t make some of you happy to hear however we believe that music is to be performed without regard to politics.”

“Our song YMCA is a global anthem that hopefully helps bring the country together after a tumultuous and divided campaign where our preferred candidate lost.”
