We’re all excited for the upcoming Sonic The Hedgehog 3 movie, but what could come after it? A Knuckles and Shadow spinoff? If their voice actors get their way then yes.

Sonic spinoff

In Sonic The Hedgehog 3, which hits theaters later this month, Shadow The Hedgehog will be one of the main antagonists – alongside Dr Robotnik and his father, Gerald – who Knuckles, along with Sonic and Tails, must foil.

But what could happen afterwards? Well, Knuckles and Shadow’s voice actors, Idris Elba and Keanu Reeves, have called for the pair to have their own spinoff.

Talking to ComicBook about the movie, Elba and Reeves both indicated they would be up for reprising their roles in the future. “I’m telling you… Shadow Knuckles,” said Elba. Reeves playfully responded: “No, Knuckles and Shadow… Shadow Knuckles sounds like a band.”

Could it happen? Knuckles has already had his own spinoff series, which aired earlier this year and acted as a bridge between the second and third films. This shows that the team behind the franchise are already open to broadening the Sonic universe.

Of course, it is also down to what happens in the movie. If it sticks close to the lore of the Sonic The Hedgehog video games – and previous ones have – then Shadow could become an antihero in the future. So a team-up with Knuckles could happen.

Post-credit sequences

The director of Sonic The Hedgehog has already teased that Sonic 3 won’t be the last time that the titular blue hedgehog and his friends will be seen on screen. Jeff Fowler recently teased that there will be a character reveal in a post-credit sequence – as there have been in the first two movies – setting up the next edition of the franchise.
