- Fans went wild at the news online

He’s one of Hollywood’s brightest rising stars.
And now Dominic Sessa is rumored to have found his next big role.
The Holdovers star, 21, is said to be in line to play the lead role in Tony – a biopic based on the life of chef, Anthony Bourdain.
According to Deadline, A24 is in negotiations to acquire the movie, with Star Thrower Entertainment – who earned a Best Picture Oscar nomination and a Lead Actor win for star Will Smith with their film, King Richard – set to produce.
Once the executive chef at Brasserie Les Halles, it was Bourdain’s essay collection about the ugly secrets of restaurants that really put him on the map, when they were published in The New Yorker.
Hosting many TV shows, the eight-seasons of his Travel Channel series Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations built the chef a huge fanbase. Bourdain died by suicide in 2018, aged 61.
Sessa has had an astronomical rise to fame since The Holdovers hit our screens last year.
The actor played Angus Tully in the comedy drama – which also starred Paul Giamatti and Da’Vine Joy Randolph – which resulted in him winning the Critics’ Choice Movie Award for Best Young Performer. He was also nominated for the BAFTA Award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role.
Listed as one of Variety’s 10 Actors to Watch for 2023 last September, Sessa is next to appear alongside Rose Byrne in Tow, and opposite the likes of Rosamund Pike, Mark Ruffalo and Woody Harrelson in Now You See Me 3.
‘Hollywood has redeemed itself!’
As usual, fans online had much to say about the rumored project.
“This is great news! He was so good in The Holdovers, and I was hoping more opportunities would come his way,” wrote one supportive follower on Twitter/X, while another joked, “Don’t threaten me with a good time.”
While the need for celebrity storytelling seems to be waning thin for some – with one incensed user commenting, “As much as I love to see Dominic Sessa booked and busy… STOP WITH THE BIOPICS PLEASE I’M BEGGING YOU” – others were just pleased that Sessa had been given the opportunity.
After news that Timothee Chalamet had been cast in the lead role of a Bob Dylan biopic, one fan wrote, “If by getting passed up for Dylan, he then gets to play Bourdain, that’s a win.”
Another added, “Remember when we were upset Dominic Sessa wasn’t cast as Bob Dylan? Infinitely better project and rising filmmaker to be attached to. HOLLYWOOD REDEEMED.”
