- Emily in Paris season 4 left Emily not in Paris
- Emily’s romance with Gabriel ended
- Gabriel (Lucas Bravo) said he was rethinking his return to the show

Emily in Paris season 4 doesn’t end with Emily in Paris, much to Lucas Bravo’s chagrin.
Seriously though, it seems like Gabriel (Lucas Bravo) wasn’t happy about his character direction in season 4. Plus, now he’s upset the rest of the cast. Yikes.
Just to recap, Gabriel’s role in season 4 was drastically reduced compared to his presence in season 3.
His main focus is his restaurant, L’Espirit de Gigi. His personal life is in tatters with a pregnant ex and he also has a current girlfriend to deal with.
The end of season 4 leaves Gabriel in a regressive position because he seems stuck repeating the same cycles.
What did Lucas Bravo say about Emily in Paris?
In an interview with Indie Wire, Bravo said playing Gabriel “wasn’t fun” anymore. He expressed his distaste towards Gabriel’s character direction compared to the chef we saw in season 1.
He said: “The ‘sexy chef’ was very much part of me in Season 1 and we grew apart season after season because of the choices he makes and because of the direction they make him take. I’ve never been so far away from him.”
Bravo also hinted at a lack of freedom and improvisation available on set when it came to his character. He claimed that the cast “cannot change a word or an emotion.” On Gabriel’s personality, he said he wanted the chef to return to his former playful character that he was in the first season.
However, in the most hard-hitting part of the interview, Bravo said that he isn’t sure if he wants to return for season 5 and renew his contract.
Of Gabriel’s future, he said: “It makes me question if I want to be part of season 5 — because my contract ends at season 4. I want to see if Gabriel gets back to his fun, cheeky, playful, alive self.”
He continued, “Because three seasons playing melancholic, sad, depressed, and lost is not fun anymore. It’s a comedy, everybody is having fun around me, everybody is jumping around, and I’m just slowly sinking into god knows what.”
Wow, talk about a bombshell in Paris.
How did the rest of the cast react?

A ‘source’ told Us Weekly that the cast is “so upset” by Bravo’s remarks. This mysteriously un-named source also claimed that the show would go on “with or without Lucas”.
Fair point. After all, the show is called Emily in Paris, not Gabriel in Paris.
However, with season 4 featuring a cliffhanger involving Gabriel and his relationship with Emily hanging in the balance, it doesn’t seem like fans will be happy if he exits the show.
Let’s not forget that Emily’s love triangle between Lucien Laviscount’s Alfie and Gabriel took centre stage for almost three seasons so if Bravo leaves, there’s no more ‘Gemily’. Not to mention a cliffhanger that will get thrown in the toilet.
As for specific reactions from the cast, nobody has said much yet outside of the ‘source’.

Lily Collins, who plays Emily Cooper, announced the Emily in Paris season 5 renewal on Good Morning America. When talking about the potential future plot for Emily, Collins told The Hollywood Reporter she “definitely” wanted to explore more of Emily in Italy with “her girls”.
Collins also hasn’t exactly expressed her admiration for the Emily and Gabriel romance in season 4.
Collins speaks out
Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, she said: “Gabriel is like, ‘I made a mistake, I have to go’ and she’s like, ‘I’m living my best life over here, I’m trying something new’”.
As for Bravo’s hopes for season 5, he seemed less enthused over the Emily and Gabriel romance storyline continuing. Still, he said in the same interview: “If they want to work, they’re going to have to do what’s necessary but I feel like they know what they have to do.”
Well, do with that what you will…
