Emily in Paris continues to grace our Netflix screens. Emily in Paris season 4 just aired a few months ago and was renewed for season 5 soon after.

The season 5 renewal came in September just after Emily in Paris season 4, part 2 aired in August. Season 4 continued to break Netflix records, going straight to the top of Netflix’s charts. In its first few days, it had 19.9 million views. This was despite Netflix’s formula of splitting its seasons into two parts.

Show creator Darren Star was elated with the news. “We’re thrilled with the incredible response to this season of Emily in Paris and excited to return for a fifth,” he told Tudum.

Now we have been promised season 5. With Netflix’s release pattern of the show, they usually wait two years, so we have a while to go, but while we’re waiting, it wouldn’t hurt to recap everything that happened in season 4.

Emily in Paris season 4 part 1 recap

Emily in Paris season 4 was split into two parts, and boy did a lot happen.

After the wedding mishap in season 3 in which Camille (Camille Rezat) reveals to her husband-to-be Gabriel (Lucas Bravo) that she is pregnant, the wedding is called off, Emily (Lily Collins) and Alfie (Lucien Laviscount) break up, and everyone is oh-so-single.

Camille

Emily in Paris season 4 opens with a bit of a crisis with Camille fleeing to Giverny, unable to face the reality of being pregnant. She’s absent for most of part 1 until Emily finds her. Emily thinks Camille has run away to Greece to be with her affair partner Sofia (Melia Kreiling) but that isn’t the case. She comes back after Emily convinces her.

Gabriel learns of the affair but eventually accepts it. Camille and Sofia continue and build a relationship, eventually moving into an apartment across from Gabriel. The girls break up because they are in different places in life. Then Camille finds out she’s not pregnant at the doctor, she missed her period due to stress and not pregnancy.

Camille moves out of Gabriel’s apartment but she tries to convince him to consider adopting a child. Gabriel declines, telling Camille that they deserve to have families with people they love.

Gabriel

Much of Gabriel’s part 1 story consists of him trying to get a Michelin star for his restaurant. He discovers that Marianne (Laurence Gormezano), the inspector who was supposedly going to give him the star is a fraud. She was fired by Michelin for ‘insider dining’, which Gabriel finds out later.

He tries to focus on fatherhood and Camille moves in close by for the baby. Camille, Emily, and Gabriel go skiing, and Gabriel ditches Emily to focus on Camille.

Emily breaks up with Gabriel, thinking their relationship can’t withstand Camille’s pregnancy. Later, Gabriel finds out Camille is not pregnant, leaving him single and in turmoil.

Emily continues to be our favorite marketing girlie. She rebrands a controversial skincare line and continues with other marketing endeavors. At the masquerade party, the love triangle finally comes to a head as Emily chooses Gabriel and the two confess feelings to one another. They start dating and things become complicated with Camille and her pregnancy.

Later when the two go skiing, Gabriel leaves Emily on the mountain to help a pregnant Camille. Em meets a charming Italian stranger Marcello (Eugenio Franceschini), who flirts with her and helps her down the mountain. They promise to meet before Marcello leaves Paris to go back home.

Mindy

Mindy (Ashley Park) kind of takes a back seat in part 1. She and the group were selected for Eurovision, and much of part 1 focuses on Mindy and ex-Benoit (Kevin Diaz)trying to fundraise for Eurovision. Mindy and the band do several gigs across Paris to make money.

Mindy continues to date Nicolas de Leon (Paul Forman) despite his father, Louis de Leon (Pierre Deny) having reservations about her image. She stands up to Nicolas over his father’s comments, telling him she will dress and act how she wants.

While going into the closet at JVMA, Mindy overhears some employees saying never to go in there alone and she discovers that Louis is prone to harassing his female employees. She tells Emily.

Sylvie

There’s not enough Sylvie in season 4 as we would like but Sylvie continues to be a baddie. She continues running Agence Grateau with many clients while working.

Eerily she is contacted by a journalist wanting to do a story on Louis de Léon, the head of their rival company JVMA.

While working with JVMA Sylvie tried to keep the peace until she decided to do the story after hearing from Emily what Mindy knew. Sylvie continues her relationship with her husband Laurent (Arnaud Binard) although she suspects him of rekindling a relationship with his daughter’s mother.

Emily in Paris season 4 part 2 recap

Emily

A lot happens to Emily in part 2. After seeing him in Paris, Marcello invites Emily to join him in Rome. After a moment, Emily accepts and takes some paid time off to see her handsome Italian hunk. She tells Sylvie she is going to work on a holiday, but Sylvie encourages Emily to go to Marcello to try and get him to join Agence Grateau.

Marcello’s family brand Umberto Muratori is a huge luxury brand that Sylvie wants. Emily joins Marcello in his hometown and tries to convince him to have a meeting with Sylvie. He eventually ghosts her, but they reconnect and he joins the agency.

She also congratulates Gabriel on his Michelin star but the two don’t talk much in part 2.

Sylvie offers Emily the chance to run the Rome office of Agence Grateau, which Emily accepts and she stays in Rome. At the end of season 4, Emily’s with Marcello, about to change her handle to Emily in Rome, and that’s where it ends.

Sylvie realizes that Laurent may not be ready for monogamy, so she puts a backseat on their relationship. On a quest for fun, she goes to Rome to have fun and reconnects with Giancarlo (Raoul Bova), a professor she met while studying in Rome.

The Muratori account is secured and the team temporarily relocates to Paris with an office which Sylvie appoints Emily the head of. Her relationship remains uncertain by season 4’s end, but she doesn’t seem mad about it.

Mindy

Mindy continues to work on her Eurovision goal, although in her performances with her ex Benoit people think more is going on. Nicolas gets jealous but Mindy reassures him nothing is going on. Our girl also collaborates with Agence Grateau on their campaign for the rebranded skincare lube (don’t ask).

Mindy performs at the Crazy Horse Cabaret place naked, where her performance goes viral. Nicolas doesn’t like it because of her image which creates tensions in their relationship.

Eventually, Nicolas and Mindy break up over his insecurities about her as a person and she ends the relationship. Mindy continues to develop her friendship with Emily and she tells Emily to go to Marcello in Rome, which she does.

Mindy joins Emily in Rome for a brief stay and performs on the streets in Rome. Her performance goes viral, and she ends season 4 getting offered to be a judge on Chinese Popstar. Elated, Mindy accepts the role. Gabriel comes to Emily’s apartment to confess talk, and a flabbergasted Mindy ends the season by answering the door.

Gabriel

Gabriel’s life is a dumpster fire at this point, but he does support Camille’s decision to move away and adopt a child and they remain friends. After that, her presence is pretty sparse in season 4 part 2. He grapples with his jealousy over Emily moving on with Marcello. Our heartbroken chef sees them at an event but leaves them to pursue their connection.

Gabriel gets scouted to do a cooking segment on TV with Genevieve (Thalia Besson), Sylvie’s stepdaughter, helping him prepare. He rejects her romantic advances. Gabriel gets a call revealing that he’d get his Michelin star after all. He leaves Emily a voicemail to thank her for all her help and he tells her he’s grateful for her.

After celebrating with Alfie and Antoine (William Abadie), Alfie tells Gabriel he missed out on the greatest girl in the world. He finds out Emily is considering staying in Rome, and he flies to Rome to talk to her, and boom, that’s where Emily in Paris season 4 ends.
