A Simple Favour 2 is coming sooner than you think.

Officially titled Another Simple Favour, the trailer for the sequel to the 2018 original A Simple Favour has dropped. It seems to show there’s lots more drama, murder, intrigue and some good old fashion mind games.

The first movie followed wannabe mommy blogger Stephanie Smothers (Anna Kendrick) becoming fast friends with the effortlessly cool Emily Nelson (Blake Lively) after their kids found themselves in the same class at school.

A Simple Favour 2 was confirmed in March 2022. An additional update was given two years later. Filming began in 2023 and wrapped in May of last year.

What is A Simple Favour 2 about?

The film has already teased the film will “see the return of Stephanie Smothers (Anna Kendrick) and Emily Nelson (Blake Lively) as they head to the beautiful island of Capri for Emily’s extravagant wedding to a rich Italian businessman. Along with the glamorous guests, expect murder and betrayal to RSVP for a wedding with more twists and turns than the road from the Marina Grande to the Capri town square.”

Shock might be the emotion fans – and the characters – might be feeling as Emily was sentenced to 20 years in prison at the end of the first film.

Well, perhaps, as it is a cinematic world where people fake their own deaths, drown their twin sisters and find new husbands in the process, it would probably be wise to park that disbelief. Let’s just lean into the chaos. Grab a cocktail and get with the programme.

Who is returning for it?

With Lively and Kendrick notably back for more shenanigans, they are not the only returning faces.

Henry Golding is appearing in A Simple Favour 2

Henry Golding is coming back to play Emily’s husband, Sean. The pair share their son, Nicky.

Andrew Rannells is also coming back to bring Darren to life again. Aparna Nancherla, Bashir Salahuddin, Joshua Satine, Ian Ho and Kelly McCormack are also coming back for the Italian ride.

What has the cast said about returning?

Kendrick explained how the follow-up is “even crazier” than the first go round with Stephanie and Emily.

“I’ll say that I know that the standard selling point for any sequel is like, it’s even crazier than the first one, but this is,’ she told Elle.com. “I’m not worried about saying that, because you’ll see it and you’ll be like, Jesus Christ. In that first movie that I was like, “Are we going to really alienate the audience with the whole half brother storyline?” People were just like, “Nope, love it. We love it.”‘

The Twilight star praised the director as a “weird evil genius.”

“I had more of the same where I was like, are people going to get on board with this? I also think that Paul [Feig, the director] is kind of a weird evil genius, because he’s such a sweetheart, but there’s some kind of dark magic going on up there where he can get you to buy in on my character having sex with her half brother,” Kendrick added.

Another Simple Favour marks the first film of Lively’s to debut since she embarked on her It Ends With Us legal battle. She filed a lawsuit that accused her co-star and director, Justin Baldoni, of sexual harassment and inciting a smear campaign against her.

In response, the ex Jane The Virgin star launched a multi-million dollar countersuit. The pair have been embroiled in a nasty back-and-forth. They see their first day in court in March 2026.

When will A Simple Favour 2 be released?

The film will be premiering at South by Southwest on 7 March and is set to debut on the streaming service Prime Video on 1 May. It comes after the director showed some of his other beloved classics at the same showcase.

Feig said, “I couldn’t be more thrilled to be back at my favourite festival in the world where we successfully launched Bridesmaids and Spy, and I cannot begin to say how honoured I am to have our film opening it all. I’ve avoided making sequels to any of my films but these characters were just too much fun not to revisit.”
