Andor has arguably been one of Lucasfilm’s standout projects since Disney acquired them. It wowed fans when it was released in 2022 with its attention to detail and compelling storylines. Hardcore fans are calling it one of the very best things ever to come out of the Star Wars universe.

The first season is set five years before Rogue One and followed a single year in the life of Diego Luna’s Cassian Andor. It ended with him joining the Rebel Alliance, setting up nicely for a second season of war against the Empire.

Initially, Andor was set to run for five seasons, presumably covering a year in each season leading up to Rogue One. However, the show’s creator Tony Gilroy realized the time commitment to completing Andor would make it impossible to run logistically for five seasons. Instead, the second will be split into blocks of three episodes, each covering a year.

Here’s everything we know about the second season.

When is Andor Season 2 out?

After delays in production due to the 2023 writer and actor strikes, a release date for the highly-anticipated second season was confirmed in 2024 at Disney’s D23 event in Brazil.

It will be released on Disney+ on 22 April, 2025 – which is a couple of days after the fan convention Star Wars Celebration.

Same cast?

Diego Luna reprises his role as Cassian Andor, joined by returning cast members such as Stellan Skarsgård as Luthen Rael, Genevieve O’Reilly as Mon Mothma, Adria Arjona as Bix Caleen, Forest Whitaker as Saw Gerrera and Kyle Soller as Syril Karn.

Notably, Ben Mendelsohn returns as villainous Death Star leader Orson Krennic, and Alan Tudyk is set to appear as Cassian’s droid companion K-2SO. Both are reprising roles they played in the Rogue One movie.

Benjamin Bratt has also been cast in the second season, though his role remains a mystery.

Andy Serkis, who played Kino Loy in season one is rumored to make another appearance. Based on how things allegedly turned out for him, it doesn’t seem likely, but this is Star Wars. Anything is possible.

As the story edges closer to Rogue One and A New Hope, fans are also speculating whether we’ll see cameo appearances from the likes of Darth Vader and Grand Moff Tarkin.

What’s the plot?

Andor is going to war in the second season in what is expected to feel like four mini-movies.

There will be 12 episodes, just like the first season, but with three-episode arcs structured like self-contained narratives. Each block will have a different lead director and lead writer. Directing credits are shared between Ariel Kleiman, Janus Metz and Alonso Ruizpalacios.

At the end of the first season, a major civilian uprising against the Empire erupted on Ferrix, the planet where Cassian Andor grew up. Season two will focus on the development of the Rebel Alliance and Cassian’s rise as a leader within it. Yavin 4, the jungle planet that serves as the Rebellion’s base of operations, is set to feature prominently. However, beyond this, little has been revealed about the plot

After months of talk about a trailer for season two being well overdue, a first trailer is finally here. In the words of Orson Krennic, “what a swell party this is!”.
