So the Buffy reboot could potentially happen. A series order hasn’t yet been made, but on February 3 Variety reported that a Buffy reboot was nearing a pilot order. Hopefully, it will turn into a series. Sarah Michelle Gellar, Buffy herself, confirmed the reboot on Instagram.

On the reboot, she said: “I have always listened to the fans and heard your desire to revisit “Buffy” and her world, but it was not something I could do unless I was sure we would get it right. This has been a long process, and it’s not over yet. I promise you, we will only make this show if we know we can do it right. And I will tell you that we are on the path there.”

When will The Buffy reboot be released?

At the moment, there is no release date confirmed for the Buffy reboot. A cast and a plot would need to be assembled for a release date to be confirmed. A writer’s room is close to being assembled, so work will probably begin shortly.

Shows usually take a few years to develop, and although spin-offs and reboots have source material to work with, they still take time. We will keep you updated if a pilot order is made by Hulu, and on the show’s release date.

Does the reboot have a title?

No title has been revealed yet, but we do have some picks. Slayer would be a great one. The Chosen One, perhaps? Return of The Slayer? Buffy: A New Slayer? Any suggestions are welcome!

What is the plot of the reboot?

Some small details have come out about the Buffy reboot’s plot. If ordered, the show will “focus on a new slayer” and Gellar will play Buffy in “a recurring role”, teaching her skills and continuing the calling as the chosen one, Variety reports. In every generation, there is a chosen one – a new one.

Who is in the cast of the Buffy reboot?

Gellar is confirmed to reprise her role as Buffy Summers if Hulu picks the show up. Fans are delighted for her return, but who else is coming back? While nothing is official yet, a return to the Buffyverse could mean returning characters.

Many of Gellar’s co-stars on the show have acknowledged the reboot. Charisma Carpenter (Cordelia) Emma Caufield (Anya), Seth Green (Oz), James Marsters (Spike), and David Boreanaz (Angel) have spoken about it.

However, an acknowledgment doesn’t mean a return, but every character here could return. Most of the characters are left alive and the Scooby Gang, a.k.a Willow (Alyson Hannigan) and Xander (Nicholas Brendon) can assist Buffy with training a new slayer.

Furthermore, the main character will be a new, younger slayer. The Buffy reboot will have to cast someone for that, but there is no news yet.

Who is involved with the Buffy reboot?

Notably, the show’s creator Joss Whedon is absent from the reboot. Instead, the reboot will be directed by  Chloé Zhao. The showrunners will be Lilla and Nora Zuckerman.
