A man has scored a Guinness World Record thanks to his ability to pop his eyeballs out of their sockets.

Uruguayan-born, Italian resident Williams Martin Sanchez Lopez discovered this unusual party trick back when he was a child. Now, it’s earned him his own world record with his eyeballs reaching further out of their sockets than anyone else.

Lopez’s journey was chronicled in a recent video published by the official Guinness World Records YouTube page.

Here, viewers can see this pupil-popping trick in action. However, if all-things-eyes make you a bit squeamish, then maybe this one isn’t one for you.

“It started when I was a kid,” Lopez explained to the Guinness World Records team.

“I could basically move the upper and lower part of the muscles around my eyes, [and] over time I perfected my skill until at last I was able to move the eye completely out of its socket.”

A Guinness World Record success story

After his doctor inspected these protruding peepers, it was found that Lopez’s enormous eyes popped out a whopping .74 inches outside of their sockets.

Soon, it was deemed that this was enough to win him a Guinness World Record.

After his abilities made him a star on social media, Lopez was quick to admit that he still gets a kick out of surprising fans with his shocking skillset.

“The funniest thing is when maybe a person doesn’t realize what they’re about to see,” he explained.

“When I come close to them and pop out my entire eyeball in this way, people definitely don’t just sit there and watch, but they basically jump two meters high.”

Weird and wonderful world records

While unusual, this is far from the most out-there Guinness World Record that has been dished out.

Over the years, people have become leaders in many different – and equally unusual – fields. These include the World’s Longest Moustache (it’s 4.39 metres, if you’re wondering), longest coin spin (25.71 seconds), and the largest scoop of ice cream (1.3 tonnes).

What a time to be alive.
