- Lizzo wore a Britney Spears T-shirt on SNL after the controversy
- She called the Princess of Pop a “Janet Jackson” impersonator on a podcast
- Fans thought she was ‘dissing’ Spears, and were unhappy with her comments

Fans are unhappy with Lizzo as she wore a Britney shirt in new promos released for SNL. The Truth Hurts singer, 36, found herself in hot water when she did the Siblings Rivalry podcast recently and ‘dissed’ Britney Spears, 43.
She said, “Britney Spears is doing a Janet impression”. Further explaining, Lizzo added, “There were no such things as pop divas before Janet”. Her comments seem to imply to fans that Spears was copying Janet Jackson.
Of course, Spears is known as the Princess of Pop, so the comparisons are always there.

Naturally, Spears’ fans were not happy with Lizzo’s words, as Spears has expressed her admiration for Jackson multiple times over her career. Additionally, she credited Jackson as one of her inspirations and influences.
Since Lizzo made those comments, fans thought her wearing the Britney shirt was a way to make amends, but they weren’t having it.

How did fans react to Lizzo wearing a Britney shirt?

Needless to say, fans weren’t happy with the singer even as she tried to pay tribute to Spears. Unfortunately, many fans saw the Britney shirt as Lizzo’s way of doing damage control. Maybe she is a fan of the pop star?
Pop culture account Pop Base posted a photo of the singer wearing the shirt on X. You can see the promo image below.

Using the Britney Spears shirt to apologize
One fan on X argued that, “She should just apologize instead of trying to cause this manufactured drama”.

To an extent, she did say that, but did she mean it as people interpreted it?

To be fair, the 43-year-old has mentioned this repeatedly, and if you examine photoshoots of Spears, it’s clear that Janet served as a major inspiration.
With that being said, there is no need to flame someone for giving their opinion on Spears. Everyone is entitled to their views.
