The Globes has been honoring the best in film and television since 1951, but president Helen Hoehne has stated it is now “making room for new voices and formats to be heard”.
This will be welcome news for the likes of Joe Rogan who since 2009 has been hosting The Joe Rogan Experience podcast. His show now boasts over 14.5 million followers on Spotify and last year achieved a significant milestone by surpassing 500 million streams.
Until now, podcasts have been recognized mostly in awards shows focused on only digital media, like the Webby Awards, the Ambies, the iHeart Podcast Awards, and the Shorty Awards. Rogan picked up an iHeart Podcast award in 2019 for Best Comedy Podcast.
How will The Golden Globes choose the nominees?

The Best Podcast category will feature six nominees, chosen from a list of the 25 most-listened-to podcasts “that have made a significant impact over the past year, celebrating the creativity and influence of creators worldwide.”
Among the most listened-to podcasts in the U.S. last year included, of course, The Joe Rogan Experience, but also Ashley Flowers and Brit Prawat’s Crime Junkie, New Heights with Jason and Travis Kelce, and Call Her Daddy hosted by Alex Cooper.
“As the world of entertainment continues to evolve, we are excited to recognize new forms of storytelling,” Hoehne said.
She continued: “Podcasts have emerged as a profound medium for sharing narratives and building communities across global borders and generations”.
A representative for the Golden Globes confirmed to CNN that narrative, video, interview and news-based podcasts will be eligible.
Nominations for all now 27 categories will be announced on 8 December 2025.

Comedian Nikki Glaser has been confirmed to return as host, following her debut earlier this year as emcee.
In March, Glaser said that hosting the awards “was without a doubt the most fun I have ever had in my career. I can’t wait to do it again, and this time in front of the team from ‘The White Lotus’ who will finally recognize my talent and cast me in season four as a Scandinavian Pilates instructor with a shadowy past.”
