Singer and songwriter Gracie Abrams is about to add another accolade to her long list. She will be honored by the Songwriters Hall Of Fame on 27 February. Abrams is receiving the 2025 Hal David Starlight Award. The news was announced by Variety on 25 February. Last year the award was given to SZA who has had mainstream success and won a Grammy for her song Saturn last year.

Meanwhile, Abrams has had a huge surge in the popularity of her music in the last year. In 2024 she joined Taylor Swift on part of her Eras Tour as an opening act and is in the middle of her The Secret Of Us tour. Songs from that album like That’s So True and I Love You, I’m Sorry have gone viral on TikTok, boosting her popularity as an artist. Another thing that the singer is known for is her turbulent relationship with Irish actor Paul Mescal.
From the Billboard Women in Music, she won the Songwriter of The Year Award in 2025. Looks like she is as good of a songwriter as she is a singer. The That’s So True singer is receiving the annual Hal David Starlight Award. The award is given to young and talented songwriters for the impact of their work. Since Abrams is only 25, she is the prime target of the award.
The award is named after American lyricist Hal David. He frequently worked with Burt Bacharach, Diddy, and even Kanye West. He is considered to be one of the greats of songwriting. One of his best-known songs was Close To You, which Bacharach sang. David sadly died in 2012.
The award was created in 2004 and named after David because of his continued support of young songwriters.
When will Gracie Abrams receive the award?
According to Variety, the 25-year-old will receive her award on 27 February. The award will be given during the 54th Annual Songwriters Hall of Fame Induction at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in New York.
This year’s inductees are Tom Johnston, George Clinton Michael McDonald, and Patrick Simmons. Also joining them are The Doobie Brothers, Ashley Gorley, Rodney “Darkchild” Jerkins, Mike Love, and Tony Macaulay.
Abrams has joined Taylor Swift in receiving the award. Swift received the award in June 2010. The award was presented to her by her ex John Mayer, who she dated from December 2009 to February 2010.
On handing her the award, the chairman of the Songwriters Hall of Fame Nile Rodgers said to Variety: “This continues to be an amazing time for songwriters, performers, and music in general. Gracie Abrams is at the forefront of this movement with her award-winning songwriting style, impressive stage presence, and her overall remarkable artistry. We are beyond thrilled that she will be the 2025 recipient of the Hal David Starlight Award.”
