Some of Hollywood’s hottest young stars have teamed up to release a new song. Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco announced on 14 February that they were releasing a collaborative album, I Said I Love You First. The album will release on 21 March. On the same day, Gomez released a collaboration with her fiancé, a ballad titled Scared Of Loving You. On 20 February singer Gracie Abrams joined the mix in another song and music video for the new song Call Me When You Break Up.

Abrams has been thrust into the spotlight in the last year. In 2024 she joined Taylor Swift on her wildly successful Eras Tour. In September 2024, she began touring for her The Secret Of Us Tour in Portland. Abrams will continue touring until August 2025. Outside of touring, Abrams earned her first number one on the Billboard album chart for The Secret Of Us. Songs like That’s So True and I Love You, I’m Sorry have gone viral on social media.

But back to this music trio. The music video opens with Gomez lip-syncing in a handheld style on a bed reminiscing about an ex who is in a new relationship. About a minute into the video, Abrams appears next to Gomez on the bed, singing her verse of the song. Her verse talks about being emotionally drained, missing that person, and waiting for them to be single again. The singers get close and sing the chorus together, dancing and jamming out. Blanco, the producer for the song, jumps in at the end laughing with the girls.

How did the internet react to Selena Gomez and Gracie Abrams’ collab?

People had a lot to say about Abrams and Gomez being such big stars. Many users were confused by the TikTok style of the video, arguing that this didn’t qualify as a music video. But you guys don’t post videos of you lip-syncing on TikTok and call that a music video?

Not a music video?

One user on X said: “Define music video?” That is definitely shade.

Another user bluntly joked, “The budget must’ve been 50 cents…” I mean, the outfits the ladies are wearing are probably more expensive than anything in our closets.

Another user didn’t think the video qualified as a music video and had another suggestion. “No shade they could’ve just put lyrics over this and called it a lyric video,” They suggested. It probably would’ve been less work.

Are we so back?

Meanwhile, other users seemed to love the vertical-style video. Vertical videos have been in since TikTok dances and lip-syncing online became a thing. The vertical videos have helped create the careers of several TikTokers, including Loren Gray and Camryn Fisher.

Sharing that sentiment, one user declared: “Vertical videos are so back!”

Love for the girls

Many users online were more focused on the looks of the singers. In the comments on X, many remarked how they both look “young”. Guys, Gomez is 32 and Abrams is only 25. Regardless, fans complimented the simple and down-to-earth style of the video.

A fan remarked: “They are so adorable I canttttt.” The video is pretty wholesome.

Another user said: “They look way younger than they are, nicely fit for the style of song.”

Finally, one of Gomez’s fans said excitedly: “They look so pretty”.

Has Gracie Abrams done any more collaborations?

Abrams has been a regular collaborator with other musicians. On her 2024 album, she collaborated with Swift on a song titled Us. And featured on a remix of Noah Kahan’s song Everything, Everything in 2023.
