Reports emerged that organisers were considering postponing the ceremony in the wake of the fires. In addition, they were supposedly planning for multiple scenarios depending on the outcome of the coming days.

After all, many people in the music business, as well as musicians themselves, have had to evacuate. They may have lost their homes and possessions, including instruments.

However, the ceremony is still going ahead on February 2 at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles as planned.

In a letter sent to Recording Academy members (per Rolling Stone), organisers said the show “will carry a renewed sense of purpose: raising additional funds to support wildfire relief efforts and honoring the bravery and dedication of first responders who risk their lives to protect ours.”

“In challenging times, music has the power to heal, comfort, and unite like nothing else. The GRAMMYs will not only honor the artistry and achievements of our music community but also serve as a platform to amplify the spirit of resilience that defines this great city of Los Angeles.”

A benefit concert is also being planned with the involvement of the Grammys’ charity MusiCares. The gig will take place on January 30 at the Intuit Dome. The line-up has not yet been announced.

Ancillary events have been cancelled

However, the Grammys this year might not be quite the same. Some labels host parties around the awards ceremony, but these are largely being cancelled.

Firstly, Universal Music Group confirmed it was cancelling all of its planned Grammy-related parties, and will instead “redirect the resources that would have been used for those events to assist those affected by the wildfires”.

Warner Music has done the same, also redirecting funds for the party to disaster relief efforts.

What can we expect from this year’s Grammys?

The show airs on CBS on television. However, it will also be available on Paramount+ to stream live and on-demand.

In terms of the nominations, Beyoncé is leading the way with eight nods for her LP Cowboy Carter. This achievement means that she has been nominated a record 99 times.

There is no news yet on who will host but Trevor Noah could return for the fifth time in a row.
