The news originates from Variety. The outlet reports that due to the success of Thunderbolts* – or The New Avengers, as it’s now known – director Jake Schreier is in the process of joining the new X-Men film.
After hitting cinemas earlier this month, Schreier’s anti-hero epic has become one of the most well-reviewed Marvel movies. Currently, it holds an admirable 88% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes, with audiences liking it even more, awarding it a 94% rating.

While this is promising news, it’s important not to get too excited just yet. No official deal has been made and at the time of writing, Marvel’s X-Men film remains without a director.
What do we know about Marvel’s X-Men movie?

At the moment, little is known for sure about Marvel’s upcoming X-Men movie. That said, we do know that it will be a big moment for these fan-favourite characters that boast the likes of Wolverine, Cyclops, Storm, Jean Grey and many, many more.
Marvel’s mutants have already made their presence known in the Marvel Cinematic Universe already. Quicksilver popped up in Wanda Vision courtesy of Even Peters, while Kelsey Grammer reprised his X-Men 3 role of Beast during a post-credit sequence in The Marvels.
Meanwhile, last year’s Deadpool & Wolverine blew the doors open for a whole mutant multiverse, bringing back Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine for one final adventure.
Who is writing the movie?

While little concrete news is known about X-Men, it has been confirmed that a script is currently being written by screenwriter Michael Lesslie.
His previous work includes the recent Hunger Games prequel story The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. He also wrote the script for 2016’s Assassin’s Creed movie, adapting the popular video game of the same name.
Unfortunately, no plot, cast or story details have been released so far which means the direction his story will take remains a mystery… for now at least.
