• Kyle Walker’s attempt to get Rasmus Hojlund sent off were scolded during Manchester derby
  • Two late goals saw United dramatically come back to defeat City at the Etihad Stadium
  • Hojlund took to Instagram to give his thoughts on Walker’s play acting

Rasmus Hojlund wasted no time rubbing salt in the wounds of Kyle Walker after Manchester United came from 1-0 down to defeat their local rivals 2-1 in the Premier League, this evening.

United found themselves 1-0 behind heading into the 88th minute before a Bruno Fernandes penalty and a 90th minute Amad Diallo winner secured a dramatic three points for Ruben Amorim’s men. The late implosion means City have now only won once in their last 11 games, losing eight of those contests along the way and slipping to fifth in the Premier League table as a result.

In the first half of today’s derby, United striker Rasmus Hojlund was shoved to the ground by City right-back Kyle Walker. Hojlund reacted angrily to Walker’s foul and squared up to the 34-year-old. While the two briefly went head-to-head, the City defender then dramatically flung himself to the ground, in an effort to convince the match official he had been headbutted, which would result in the Danish striker being dismissed.

However, Walker’s efforts were not only unsuccessful, they were castigated by pundits and fans, before being ridiculed by Hojlund himself, as the former Atalanta man took to Instagram to poke fun at the City captain’s woeful attempt at getting the Danish striker sent off.

Posting a couple of pictures from the match, the second of which was the pair’s coming together in the first half, Hojlund captioned the post, “Manchester is red/Violets are blue/What a brilliant performance/But the Oscar goes to…” referencing Walker’s much maligned play acting.

At the time of writing, the post from Hojlund has over 824,000 likes and more than 25,000 comments.

City had taken the lead in the derby in the first half, slightly against the run of play, via a Joško Gvardiol header. However, late in the second half, with United desperately running out of ideas, Matheus Nunes underhit a pass back to Ederson, allowing Amad Diallo to steal in. The Ivorian was subsequently clattered to the turf by a flummoxed Nunes, gifting United a penalty and a route back into the game. United captain Bruno Fernandes promptly placed his spot kick into the net and, two minutes later, Diallo was delicately lofting Lisandro Martinez’s raking 60-yard pass over the head of Ederson and effortlessly sidefooting the ball into the back of the net.

Cue celebrations. Cue delirium. Cue an expertly crafted Instagram victory post.

The defeat leaves City nine points adrift of league leaders Liverpool, who also have a game in hand over the English champions. United, meanwhile, moved up to 12th after securing the three points in east Manchester.
