- Ariana Grande plays Glinda in the new Wicked movie
- Drew Barrymore surprised the actor with the original Glinda wand from The Wizard of Oz
- But how did the talk show host get her hands on it?

With Ariana Grande currently wowing audiences across the world with her role as Glinda in Wicked, the singer has been on a jam-packed press tour to promote the movie.
And this week, Grande will appear on The Drew Barrymore Show to chat all things Oz.
But while Grande will be the one to sit on the talk show host’s sofa in the episode, which will air on December 5, she wasn’t the one with a magic trick up her sleeve.
Barrymore, 49, managed to completely surprise the Dangerous Woman vocalist – as she presented her with the original Glinda wand from The Wizard of Oz.
Fans of the musical will know that Wicked is the prequel to the 1939 classic movie, and tells the backstory of Glinda and Elphaba (played by Cynthia Erivo), the Wicked Witch of the West.
In a clip from the show, Barrymore asked her crew to “bring out the original Glinda wand, please.”
In disbelief, Grande, 31, asked, “Are you serious right now?” before pretending to run off the set with the wand, saying, “Thank you guys it’s been fun. Yeah, I’m kidding. I’m kidding.”
But how did Barrymore get her hands on the wand?
While Glinda may be the one with magic, Barrymore practiced a bit of her own to get her hands on the precious prop.
“How did you even, how did you pull this off?” questioned Grande – which is what we were all wondering, too!
Revealing that she had “something that’s extremely exciting and special”, Barrymore explained how the wand “was owned by the Smithsonian and now it’s owned in private hands. But for the purposes of our sit down, they loaned it to us.”
She added that once they knew Grande was going to be a guest, the entire crew and production team rallied to get the original wand as a special treat for Grande and viewers.
Sadly, Grande didn’t get to keep the wand as it had to be given back to its owners.
Grande’s net worth

But with the fee Grande earned from her performance in Wicked Part 1, perhaps she could purchase the wand for keeps.
The actor was reportedly paid a whopping $15 million to play Glinda in the movie – $14 million more than her co-star Erivo.
The huge sum contributed handsomely to Grande’s overall estimated fortune.
Her net worth is currently said to sit at a whopping $230 million – with her career as an actor and singer both helping to boost her income, as well as her fragrance and beauty lines.
