- Director has been retired since 2013 but was tempted to return for wholesome reason
- The director has worked on some the biggest adaptations of Stephen King novels
- Stranger Things season five is currently in production

An iconic Hollywood director has been tempted out of retirement to work on the forthcoming final season of Stranger Things for a wholesome reason.
Iconic director
Frank Darabont, who is best known for directing films such as The Shawshank Redemption and The Green Mile, has been retired for more than a decade. But he has been reportedly tempted back into the chair by the hit Netflix show.
Stranger Things is currently mid-way through production on its fifth and final season. Fan favorite characters such as Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown), Steve (Joe Keery) and Joyce (Winona Ryder) are all returning as fans hope to see a conclusion to the saga.
Darabont has explained the reason for returning to directing after such a long time out. Speaking to The Daily Beast about the 30th anniversary of The Shawshank Redemption, he said the reason was simple. “What really dragged me out of retirement was that my wife and I really love this show,” he said.
“Our content now is so filled with horrible people doing horrible things for greedy reasons but Stranger Things has so much heart.”
Little known
It isn’t known which or how many episodes Darabont is working on. Production has been ongoing for some time and isn’t scheduled to wrap for a while yet.
Very little information has come out about what the fifth season may hold. There was a teaser clip released in May, which contained hints including shots of Dustin, Mike, Will and Lucas – the four characters who were central to the first season and who spent much of season four apart – back together.
