- The film has overtaken the previously most successful film by Pixar from 2018
- Inside Out 2 is also the biggest-grossing film worldwide so far in 2024
- Sequels dominate the top five list of highest-grossing Pixar films

Pixar’s return to form with Inside Out 2 has been confirmed as it has become the company’s biggest-ever grossing film at the worldwide box office.
Record breaker
Inside Out 2, which was released across the world in June, has now taken $1.25 billion worldwide, taking it past the previous record for a Pixar film, which had been held since 2018 by Incredibles 2, which took $1.24 billion.
In addition, Inside Out 2 has become the first film this year to take more than $1 billion at the worldwide box office. It is now some way ahead of the second most successful film released this year, Dune: Part Two, which took $711 million globally, according to figures from Box Office Mojo.
Sequels dominate
As mentioned, another Pixar sequel, Incredibles 2, held the previous record for box office takings for the animation company. Incredibles 2, like Inside Out 2, had been a hugely anticipated sequel – although fans had to wait 14 years for the second instalment, rather than the nine years between Inside out films.
Indeed, sequels dominate the top five of biggest Pixar movies. In third place behind Incredibles 2 comes Toy Story 4, which took $1.07 billion worldwide. Another entry in the Toy Story franchise, Toy Story 3, was just behind, having taken $1.06 billion. Rounding out the top five was 2016’s Finding Dory, which took $1.02 billion.
The first Inside Out film, released in 2015, is now the seventh most successful Pixar film, as it took $858 million globally. It was just behind Finding Nemo, which took more than $900 million at the box office.
