James Gunn has addressed the disappointment of fans that The Batman Part 2 has been delayed till October 2027.

When it was first announced, the sequel to The Batman was slated for release in October 2024. Due to the Hollywood strikes, it was pushed back to October 2026. Now, Warner Bros has confirmed it is being delayed again.
Now, the DC boss has assured fans that while the delays are unfortunate, large gaps between sequels are fairly commonplace. He also pointed to film franchises whose gaps between sequels were even larger than the gap between
“To be fair, a 5 year gap or more is fairly common in sequels,” Gunn wrote on Threads. “7 years between Alien and Aliens. 14 years between Incredibles. 7 years between the first two Terminators. 13 years between Avatars. 36 years between Top Guns. And, of course, 6 years between Guardians Vol 2 and Vol 3.”
No reason has been given for the release date.

What do we already know about The Batman – Part 2?

Few details about the film’s plot have emerged as of yet as The Batman -Part II is still in the writing stages. Production is expected to begin in the third quarter of 2025.
So far, only a few returning stars have been confirmed to appear in the sequel. These are Robert Pattinson’s Bruce Wayne / Batman, Farrell’s Penguin AKA Oswald Cobblepot, Andy Serkis as Bat-butler Alfred Pennyworth and Jeffrey Wright as Gotham’s Commissioner Gordon.
Fans will also be hoping to see the return of Dano’s Riddler, the Joker, played briefly by Irish star Barry Keoghan in the first film. Zoë Kravitz’s Catwoman AKA Selina Kyle could also make an appearance.
During an interview with Screen Rant, writer Mattson Tomlin suggested that filming for the sequel was on track to begin in 2025.
Meanwhile, Pattinson has suggested that the planned Bat-trilogy could be his final acting project.
“I could genuinely be retiring by the end of them,” said Pattinson. “Not in a million years did I think I’d still be doing this when I got my first job. I can’t believe this is still going.”
