Jeremy Allen White could join the DCU as Sgt. Rock.

If early reports are to be believed, Jeremy Allen White could be gearing up to join the DC Universe in Luca Guadagnino’s Sgt. Rock.

The Bear star would be replacing Daniel Craig, the former James Bond who was originally set to play the titular role in this upcoming comic adaptation.

If true, it’d mark White’s first collaboration with Guadagnino but the pair share an unlikely connection. The latter directed 2017’s critically acclaimed Call Me By Your Name, a movie based on a novel by author André Aciman.

Meanwhile, White is set to star in an upcoming adaptation of Aciman’s novel Enigma Variations for Netflix.

Reports of White’s involvement in Sgt. Rock emerged following the news that Craig would be leaving the project at the eleventh hour. The British star originally signed on to Guadagnino’s first superhero movie in late 2024.

The reason for his departure isn’t immediately clear but industry outlets like The Hollywood Reporter have cited potential scheduling issues or the underperformance of his previous collaboration with Guadagnino, Queer.

Who is Sgt. Rock?

Sgt. Rock is a comic book character from the DC comics’ universe. He was created by Robert Kanigher and Joe Kubert and first appeared in 1959. He’s usually depicted as a World War II soldier and the tough leader of the even tougher Easy Company.

Throughout his comic adventures, readers watch him battle Nazis and eventually join forces with the Suicide Squad. In comics lore, the character was later replaced by his son Joe Rock.

At this early stage, it’s unclear which version of Sgt. Rock Allen might be playing – if he signs on. Hollywood has long tried – and failed – to bring the character to screens, with action stars like Arnold Schwarzenegger and Bruce Willis linked to the role.

When is Sgt. Rock released?

With production on the movie yet to begin, it’s unclear when we can expect to see Sgt. Rock in cinemas, as a release date remains MIA.

The film was set to shoot in the UK later this year. However, it’s possible that Craig’s sudden departure could upset or delay this schedule.
