- It’s set to terrorise director Gareth Edwards’ new sequel
- Plus, details have been released about new mutant dinos

After months of internet dissection, the mutant D-Rex from Jurassic World Rebirth has officially been given a proper title – and a terrifying description.
This huge, hulking creature can be seen in a couple of brief but memorable shots from the first trailer for Gareth Edwards’ sequel. His film takes us to a new island – one that hasn’t been featured in any previous Jurassic Park – or World – movie so far.

This new island has been billed as a breeding ground for the “worst of the worst” creations that were deemed too nasty for the main Park. Instead, they were simply left behind – but they’ll soon be found by Edwards’ new heroes.
Among the worst of these creations is the D-Rex – or Distortus Rex. As revealed by Empire, this new creation takes its cues from other movie monsters to create a fresh new terror.

“It’s kind of like if the T-Rex was designed by H.R. Giger, and then that whole thing had sex with a Rancor,” explained Edwards, making reference to the designer of the Alien franchise’s drooling Xenomorph.
What else do we know about the Distortus Rex?

Well, design-wise, the creature has six limbs and lots of gnashers. It’s also huge and has a bad attitude towards humans.
“It’s a design that I was really happy with,” added Edwards. He jokes that he’d “like to buy the toy of it when it comes out.”
That said, the same outlet also spoke to Industrial Light and Magic’s David Vickery. He said that the creature may also have a secret ability to pull on your heartstrings.
“It’s as if another animal has been wrapped around the T-Rex,” said Vickery. “Gareth wanted us to feel sorry for it as well as terrified, because its deformities have caused it some pain, and there’s an encumbrance to it.”
Are there any other new dinosaurs?

Well, funny you should ask because in addition to the Distortus Rex, Edwards has also cooked up some additional mutant dinos that are waiting for us in Jurassic World Rebirth.
Among these InGen creations are the flying Mutadons, something that movie screenwriter David Koepp describes as a mixture of pterosaurs and Raptors.
“Those came from my strange mind,” he admitted.
