Jurassic World Rebirth is coming and you don’t need ripples in a glass of water to know it’s getting closer every day. What’s more, original movie writer David Koepp is returning for more dino DNA tampering.
The sequel marks a return to the well for Universal, proving that you can’t keep a good franchise down despite the studio’s recent reboot trilogy only just coming to a close.
Released in 2015, Colin Trevorrow’s Jurassic World starred Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard as the new custodians of a blockbuster franchise first started by Steven Spielberg back in 1993.
Through 2018’s Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom and 2022’s trilogy capper Jurassic World Dominion, we watched all hell break lose as Pratt’s gamekeeper Owen Grady and Howard’s park-boss-turned-dino-activist Claire Dearing tried their best to ensure humans and prehistoric nasties were able to peacefully co-exist.
Overall, it was a bit of a mixed-bag trilogy. However, much like the DNA-dabbling at its core, life has found a way for it to flourish once more. In Jurassic World Rebirth, this series continuation promises to take the franchise in to bold new territory.

When is Jurassic World Rebirth released?
Jurassic Park Rebirth will stomp into American cinemas on 2 July 2025. A UK debut is yet to be confirmed but it’s assumed the film will also drop in July next year.
The film is directed by Gareth Edwards, the visionary filmmaker who shot to fame with his 2010 hit Monsters. He later found continued success with 2016’s Star Wars spin-off Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
Most recently, Edwards helmed 2023’s high-concept sci-fi thriller The Creator starring John David Washington and Gemma Chan. The movie tells an AI story set in a robotically-enhanced future.

The Super Bowl gave us a new look at Jurassic World Rebirth.
However, before you get too excited, the trailer didn’t offer too much new stuff. In fact, it didn’t really offer any new stuff.

Yes, the first Jurassic World Rebirth trailer arrived on 5 February.
It invited us to a brand new island, one that was used as a research facility for the main Jurassic Park. It’s here where our heroes must visit in order to complete a top secret mission that could help mankind.

Before this arrived, he official Jurassic World YouTube account released a short teaser that unveiled the movie’s official logo alongside the first few bars from composer John Williams’ iconic score.

What is the plot for Jurassic World Rebirth?
A short movie synopsis revealed by Universal has shed some light on what we can expect from Jurassic World Rebirth.
“Five years after the events of Jurassic World Dominion, the planet’s ecology has proven largely inhospitable to dinosaurs. Those remaining exist in isolated equatorial environments with climates resembling the one in which they once thrived,” it reads.
“The three most colossal creatures within that tropical biosphere hold the key to a drug that will bring miraculous life-saving benefits to humankind.”
In late January 2025, a new image was released featuring Jurassic Park Rebirth stars Scarlett Johansson and Jonathan Bailey and a mysterious dino egg.
“Scarlett Johansson and Jonathan Bailey lead a dangerous mission in #JurassicWorldRebirth,” read the caption.
Elsewhere, we know that the movie’s script has been written by Koepp, the same screenwriter behind Spielberg’s original Jurassic Park movie and its 1997 sequel The Lost World: Jurassic Park.
Discussing his return to Isla Nublar, Koepp told The Wrap that it was the idea of a fresh start that drew him back to the park.
The idea of starting afresh,” he told outlet, when quizzed on his return. “You don’t often get that chance where they give you very few guidelines, except there must be dinosaurs in it.”
Speaking to Empire in November 2024, Edwards revealed that the movie returns to what he “loved about the original.”
He added, explaining the film features “an embarrassment of riches of different set-piece-type scenarios and tense, fun action moments. There were a lot of opportunities as a filmmaker to have a lot of fun and try and play games with the audience.”
In addition to confirming that the movie takes place years after the event of Jurassic World: Dominion, Edwards also told the outlet that Rebirth will kick start “a whole new chapter in the timeline of Jurassic”.
During an interview with Variety, Koepp revealed that there was a scene from author Michael Crichton’s original book that was cut from Koepp’s original Jurassic Park script that will find a home in his new movie.
“I reread the two novels to get myself back in that mode though,” he said of returning to the franchise.
“We did take some things from them. There was a sequence from the first novel that we’d always wanted in the original movie, but didn’t have room for. We were like, “Hey, we get to use that now.””
Who is starring in Jurassic World Rebirth?
Black Widow star Johansson will lead the way in Jurassic Park Rebirth as “skilled cover operation expert” Zora Bennett.
As Edwards told Empire, Bennett is “looking for meaning in her life after leaving the military,” adding that “this opportunity comes along where [after it] basically she’d never have to work again. But through that journey, she starts to question the ethical rights and wrongs of what they’re doing.”
She’ll star alongside a small ensemble cast that includes Green Book’s Mahershala Ali as her team leader Duncan Kincaid.
English actor Bailey will also appear as palaeontologist Dr. Henry Loomis, with Rupert Friend set to star as pharmaceutical rep Martin Krebs.
As revealed in the movie’s expanded synopsis, Bennet and her team will cross paths with a civilian family who have found themselves stranded on the same dino-infested island. This family will consist of Manuel Garcia-Rulfo as father Reuben, Luna Blaise as his eldest daughter, David Iacono as his son and Adrian Miranda as his youngest daughter.
Meanwhile, Deadpool star Ed Skrein will star in an as-yet-undisclosed role, alongside Philippine Velge and Bechir Sylvain.
Stars of the recent Jurassic Park trilogy and its original films – including Pratt, Howard, Sam Neil, Jeff Goldblum and Laura Dern – aren’t expected to return for the sequel.
Oh, and expect dinosaurs too – and lots of them. “There are certain dinosaurs it would be a crime against cinema not to include,” Edwards told Empire.
