Only Murders in the Building is known for its stellar cast of guest starts and the first name to join for season 5 has now been confirmed – Keegan-Michael Key.
Over the course of its first four seasons, Only Murders in the Building has had a long list of illustrious stars appear alongside cast regulars Martin Short, Steve Martin and Selena Gomez. Stars have included Eva Longoria, Meryl Streep, Eugene Levy and Zach Galafinakis.
In the show, Short plays Broadway director Oliver Putnam, Martin is actor Charles Haden-Savage and Gomez is artist Mabel Mora. They are all neighbors in the upmarket building The Arconia, brought together by a shared love of true-crime podcasts. Then, when a body turns up, they put their heads together to solve it.
With season five commencing production earlier this week, fans are eagerly anticipating news of who will appear. Now, the first name has been confirmed by Deadline as Key.
Who is Keegan-Michael Key?
Key is a seasoned comedian actor who has appeared in a wide range of shows and movies over the years. Alongside Jordan Peele, Key co-created and co-starred in sketch show Key & Peele from 2012 to 15. Around this time he also had a recurring role on Parks and Recreation. He also appeared in Wonka in 2023.
Key is almost as well known for his voiceover work. For instance, he voiced Toad in The Super Mario Bros Movie (2023), Ducky in Toy Story 4 (2019) and has voiced Murray in three of the four Hotel Transylvania movies.
Only Murders in the Building season 5
While Key has been confirmed in a recurring role for season 5, no details of who he will be playing or his role in the story have been released. This is standard from Hulu, who obviously don’t want to give too much of the game away prior to the show dropping.
Thus far, only snippets of the plot for season 5 have been released. Fans already know that season 5 will, at least initially, focus on who killed doorman Lester, who was found dead by the main characters at the end of season four.
