Tony Todd, the iconic star of horror classic Candyman, has passed away at the age of 69.
Tony Todd’s Career and Legacy
Todd started his acting career in the mid-1980s, beginning a 40 year journey through some of the most watched and rewatched horror classics, most notably 1992’s Candyman, his most memorable role that immortalised Todd as an icon of the horror genre.

In the 2021 remake, Todd revisited his role as the ghostly killer with an affinity for having his name said five times, introducing a new generation of horror fans to the character. With his work in other cult classics such as the Final Destination films, in which he played mysterious funeral home owner William Bludworth, Night of the Living Dead (1990), and The Crow (1994).
In tribute to the great man, New Line Cinema wrote in an Instagram post,
“The industry has lost a legend. We have lost a cherished friend. Rest in peace, Tony. Your Final Destination Family”
A Voice That Will Never Be Forgotten
Todd not only enjoyed success in acting on-screen but was also a renowned voice actor- bringing several video game characters to life with his deep and influencing tones. Some of them include Venom- Spider-Man 2 (2023), Rodek/Kurn- Star Trek Online (2010), Vortigaunts- Half-Life 2: Episode Two (2007), and more.
Shortly after Todd’s passing, Insomniac wrote,
“Insomniac Games is heartbroken by the passing of our friend Tony Todd. He brought so much joy to our studio during the production of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and to many fans around the world with his inimitable voice and presence. We are Venom… forever.”
The Candyman star’s voice acting extended beyond video games to films and TV shows, including Astaroth- Batman: The Brave and the Bold (2008), Devil’s Voice- Final Destination 3 (2006), Dreadwing- Transformers: Prime (2010) plus many more.
Insider Gaming hailed Todd as a “Gentle Giant”. He is survived by his two children, Alex and Ariana.
