- Prequel would be set 1,000 years before the events of Game of Thrones
- Another prequel, House of the Dragon, debuted last night
- Writer George R.R. Martin “very excited” about the project

While Game of Thrones fans have been taking to social media in their droves after the first episode of season two of House of the Dragon dropped, there could be another spinoff in the works, according to the show’s creator.
George R.R. Martin has recently confirmed that another prequel, this time focused on Princess Nymeria, called Ten Thousand Ships, is making progress with a new writer on board.
Pulitzer Prize winner
On his blog, Martin wrote that Eboni Booth – who has recently won a Pulitzer Prize for her play ‘Primary Truth’ – is “an amazingly talented young playwright, and a joy to work with; when not writing and producing her prize-winning play on- and off-Broadway, she has been kept busy by me and HBO, working on a new pilot for Ten Thousand Ships, a Game of Thrones spinoff about Mymeria and the Rhoynar.
“We’re all very excited about this one… though we’re still trying to figure out how we’re going to pay for ten thousand ships, three hundred dragons, and those giant turtles.”
Ten Thousand Ships is set 1,000 years before the events of Game of Thrones, and focuses on warrior queen Princess Nymeria, who founded the kingdom of Dorne, and the surviving Rhoynars who travel from Essos to Dorne after they are defeated by Valyrian and their dragons.
Game of Thrones spinoffs
The idea for Ten Thousand Ships has been around since HBO commissioned five prequel ideas to replace Game of Thrones. HBO itself hasn’t commented on Martin’s update.
If the show makes it to air – and there is no guarantee of that – it will be the third spinoff from Game of Thrones, in addition to House of the Dragon and A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, which is set to debut in 2025.
