- Festival caused controversy by not showing England v Slovakia match on Sunday afternoon
- But football-loving One Direction superstar had the answer to delight fans
- England won hard-fought match 2-1 to progress to the quarterfinals

Football lovers at the Glastonbury Festival in England facing missing seeing their heroes as the organisers did not put the match on big screens – but a One Direction superstar came to the rescue.
No big screen showing
While in previous years the organisers of Glastonbury have shown England matches at major international tournaments that have clashed with the festival on big screens, they chose not to this time round – largely due to scheduling issues. This left fans at the Festival with the prospect of missing England’s round-of-16 tie with Slovakia at Euro 24 in Germany.
Step forward Louis Tomlinson. The former member of One Direction and now solo artist – and well-known football fan – was attending the festival but came prepared: he had a flatscreen television and set it up in one of the campsites.
While Tomlinson admitted in an interview with the BBC after the match that it was “a little bit touch and go as the signal kept going in and out” he and those around managed to catch the match.
Made up
With England scoring an equaliser in with less than two minutes remaining, before going ahead in extra time and holding on for the win to progress to the quarterfinals of the tournament, it was well worth it. Tomlinson said he was “made up” with the result.
The Glastonbury Festival is one of the biggest annual cultural events in the UK, with more than 100,000 people descending on Worthy Farm near Glastonbury for three days of music and cultural offerings. Headliners at the festival this year included Dua Lipa, Coldplay and SZA.
