Paul Mescal is currently starring as Lucius in the global smash hit, Gladiator II.
But as fans flock to see the Irish actor, 28, in the historical action movie, many can’t help but wonder… is Mescal single?
The sad news is no – your favorite internet boyfriend is currently dating a rising star in the music biz.
But who exactly is Paul Mescal’s partner, and who has he dated in the past?

Phoebe Bridgers: 2020-2022
While his current girlfriend is also a singer, it’s not the first time Mescal has dated a musician.
The actor was first linked to Phoebe Bridgers in May 2020 – after Bridgers tweeted (and deleted!), “Finished Normal People and now I’m sad and horny oh wait.”
While the very bold comment may have put some off, Mescal was flattered. “I’m officially dead,” he posted to his account.
The pair then had a live chat for Wonderland magazine, which many hail as their ‘first date’:
Eventually getting together, Mescal and Bridgers were rumored to be engaged and also attended the 2022 Met Gala together around that time.
But by December of that year, they had split – and Bridgers was spotted with comedian Bo Burnham.
Sophie Wilde: March 2024
After a brief stint on the regular dating apps (and a short fling with his current beau – more on that later), Mescal was said to have briefly dated fellow actor Sophie Wilde this March.
The Aftersun Oscar nominee reportedly grew close after spending a lot of time together.
“Paul and Sophie have been having lots of fun together and now their friendship has turned into something more,” a source told The Mirror. “They got really close after last month’s B Awards and were seen smooching into the early hours at an after-party at London’s Chiltern Firehouse.
“It’s early days, but they’re excited about where things could go. They have a solid foundation and loads of respect for each other.”
However, it wasn’t to be – as just a few months later…
Gracie Abrams: June 2024 to Now (and, briefly, October 2023!)
…Mescal was spotted with American singer, Gracie Abrams.
This wasn’t the first time the pair were linked – as back on October 25, 2023, a source told showbiz gossip Instagram page Deuxmoi that, “I’ve heard from two different people now that Paul Mescal and Gracie Abrams are hanging out/dating, but I haven’t seen it first hand.”
Fast forward to June 2024, and it seemed as though Mescal and Abrams – who recently supported Taylor Swift on her Eras Tour – were now A Thing.
Pictured out and about in London, another insider spotted them shopping in July.
“Paul is a very low-key person, as is Gracie, so there was no fanfare and they kept their distance from each other when they were out on the street,” they told The Sun. “When they had finished shopping, they each went off alone.”
Since then, the pair have been seen together several times – including with other pals at music festivals.
And while neither has officially confirmed their relationship, they seemed to go public with their romance in November – when Abrams attended the Los Angeles premiere of Gladiator II to support her boyfriend.
Did Mescal ever date Daisy Edgar-Jones?
Much to the dismay of fans, Mescal and his Normal People co-star Daisy Edgar-Jones are just friends.
The pair remain incredibly close after the hit Hulu show which made them household names – with many fans begging the couple to get together – and are “always flirting” with the idea of working together again.
They can often be seen on double dates together – including a festival in London this summer, which Mescal and Abrams attended with Edgar-Jones and her boyfriend of just over a year, Ben ‘Pip’ Seed.
What are those park date rumors?
It seems as though every celebrity is plagued by a weird rumor – and Mescal is no different.
In December 2023, an urban legend surfaced around Mescal – about how after he had hooked up with a girl, he would then suggest a park date… and run away from them.
Mescal has since addressed the whispers on several occasions – most recently in a chat with GQ.
As the TikToks surfaced around the festive season when he was spending time with his siblings, Mescal explained, “We were looking at the videos and we were p***ing ourselves at it. Categorically untrue. And we were laughing, laughing, laughing, laughing.”
However, there was one thing that did cause him to take pause and worry – his mom’s reaction.
“And the one thing that upset me was that I was in the kitchen, I remember my mum looking at the videos and she was getting upset. Isn’t that devastating? I was like, ‘Oh, it’s funny to us – my brother, me, my sister – because we know that this is the way the internet works’. It’s hilarious. If it was true, it’d be f***ing bad, but as a rumor, it’s funny.
“Then I was like, ‘Oh, if you’re a mother, her impulse is to come out and be like, ‘He wouldn’t do this.’”
However, good-humored Mescal continued with the joke later in the interview.
While toying with some of the books on the bar’s bookshelf where the chat was being held, he found himself picking up a set titled London’s Hidden Walks.
“Three volumes,” he said. “I should take these for my running-away dates.”
