Surprisingly, the two weren’t first linked in 2020. They were seen together in 2012, although their relationship became public in 2020.
2012 – The beginning of Rockianna
On 6 September, the duo performed a version of Rihanna’s song Cockiness (Love It). Added to the song was a verse that Rocky recorded and performed with her MTV Video Music Awards.
A$AP Rocky joins Riri on tour
In March 2013, a less-famous Rocky joined his future girlfriend on her Diamonds World Tour as a support act.
Fast forward to September of that year, and the Diamonds singer joined her future boyfriend in his music video. Ironically the two portrayed a couple in the music video for Rocky’s hit single Fashion Killa from his album Long. Live. ASAP.
2018 – Friendly vibes, or more?
The musicians were friends in 2018 but they were pictured looking cosy at Paris Fashion Week. Rihanna and Rocky were long-time attendees at Fashion Week across the globe. Together they were pictured sitting front-row at the Louis Vuitton Menswear Spring/Summer 2018 show. When they started dating, they attended Paris Fashion Week in 2022 and again in 2024.

2019 – Red carpet ready and relationship territory
No, they weren’t official yet but the two made their red carpet debut together in London at the 2019 Fashion Awards. On the night, the rapper gushed over Rihanna’s look. The 36-year-old stepped out in her brand Fenty wearing a mint green satin mini dress. Rocky’s outfit was also Fenty, a tuxedo she designed specifically for him.
2020 – Working together and official
A loved-up Rihanna and Rocky collaborated on another of Rihanna’s successful brands, Fenty Skin in August 2020. He starred in the brand’s first skin campaign alongside his girlfriend. In the brand’s early marketing, the two were heavily involved in interviews and skin-related videos.
News officially broke that the two were dating in November 2020. PEOPLE confirmed the news alongside other outlets, and the couple almost broke the internet.
The following month, official paparazzi shots of the two confirmed the rumors. They were spotted on vacation in Rihanna’s home country of Barbados to spend Christmas with the singer’s family. Aww.
2021 – PDA and public support for each other
2021 was the year of Rihrocky, as we like to call them. Everyone knows that she is no stranger to posting on Instagram. Rihanna posed in January 2021 on her Instagram wearing shoes Rocky designed which were a pair of gladiator-style heels.
That May, an interview addressing their romance was published by GQ. When talking about Rihanna, Rocky reportedly called the singer “the love of his life”. In the same interview, he spoke candidly about having children saying it was “in [his] destiny.”
Their official red carpet debut was made at the Met Gala that September. As for the looks, they weren’t the best. However, what a place to make your debut as a couple!
2022 – Pregnancy announcement and more love
The Fenty Beauty founder broke the internet in January 2022 when she announced she was expecting her first child with Rocky. Following the announcement she was spotted out with a full pregnant belly. After the pregnancy confirmation, the two were spotted out numerous times. One outing in March 2022 saw them shopping for baby clothes in Paris.
After Rocky’s arrest in April 2022 for the November 2021 shooting incident, he was seen out to dinner with Rihanna. In May, Rihanna again starred in another Rocky music video for his song D.M.B. In the video, they pretend to get married in a vintage old video style. Mid-May saw the arrival of their son RZA. Later that month, Rocky opened up about fatherhood in an interview.
For the rest of 2022, the two were spotted out together and occasionally spoke about each other. There was a point when Rihanna said Rocky encouraged her to do the Super Bowl Halftime Show, which she performed at in February 2023.
2023 – Second pregnancy and more PDA
It was a big year for them in 2023! February rolled around and Rihanna revealed during her Super Bowl Halftime performance that she was pregnant with her second child. She flashed her baby bump before her show began. Sneakily Rocky hinted at this in an interview in January and said he was “excited” for her performance.
“I’m so glad that my lady’s back making music again and whatnot, and getting back out there. It’s just incredible,” he said to Zane Lowe. Didn’t mention the baby bump, did you?
One of the defining moments of their careers happened that February when the two appeared on the cover of British Vogue. They spoke about having a baby together and their relationship.

In January 2025, the three-week assault trial of Rocky began in Los Angeles. Rihanna was spotted with Rocky after a day of court in January 2025.
Valentine’s Day came and she posted a tribute to him with a video on Instagram captioned, “Get u a valentine that still writes love letters.” As a rapper, you must have a way with words surely? The video featured the couple walking hand-in-hand across the street and posing for photos in Paris.
On 18 February, the two shared an intimate moment when Rocky was acquitted of all charges in his trial. He ran to hug his lawyers and dived over to hug Rihanna in the video.
