- Deadpool star’s production company working on film adaptation of iconic cartoon
- Mighty Mouse first appeared in 1942
- Writer of Free Guy is penning the script for the movie

Here he comes to save the day! Yes, Ryan Reynolds is looking to bring another iconic comic character to the big screen – this time it is Mighty Mouse.
Mighty history
Variety revealed that Paramount Animation has contracted Reynolds’ Maximum Effort Productions to make a movie version of the long-running cartoon character.
In addition, Paramount Animation has brought in Matt Lieberman – who worked with Reynolds on 2021 movie Free Guy – to write the script for the movie.
Mighty Mouse first appeared way back in 1942 in a short called ‘The Mouse of Tomorrow’. Starting out as a parody of Superman – his original name was Super Mouse – he adopted his current moniker in 1944. He went on to star in 80 theatrical shorts, with the last coming in 1961.
In 1955, Mighty Mouse made his first television appearance, and then appeared in various cartoon series, up unto 1988 with Mighty Mouse: The New Adventures. He has also appeared in various comic books over the years.
However, since 1991, very little of Mighty Mouse has been seen – other than repeats of the 1980s TV show and occasional appearances in adverts. Some of this has been down to complicated rights ownership issues. But the character is well remembered – ask you parents kids! – especially for his catchy ‘here I come to save the day’ theme tune.
Getting off the ground
There have been off and on attempts to bring Mighty Mouse to the big screen since 2019, but now it seems that a movie is now more likely to happen with with a big hitter like Reynolds on board. The project is still in its early stages – so no word on plot or cast yet – but updates will come as it progresses.
The studio will no doubt hope Reynolds can have a similar effect with Mighty Mouse as he had with Deadpool, which has become the highest grossing R-rated film of all time this year.
