Scarlett Johansson has set an epic boundary and has refused to join social media. But it’s not in some form of protest! Speaking in an interview with In Style Magazine, the actress revealed she was asked to join social media to promote her movie. The new film is Jurassic World: Rebirth. Johannson plays Zora Bennett. Benett is the leader of a team of operatives sent to an island research facility for the original Jurassic Park. The team is trying to extract DNA from dinosaurs that claim to save human lives.

Jurassic World: Rebirth will be released in July 2025 and is the actress’ first step into the Jurassic World franchise. Johnasson is best known for her role as Natasha Romanoff or Black Widow in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It is the part that has defined her career for years. However even though she is one of the most highly-paid actresses in Hollywood, she is notoriously private.

The actress spoke about this in her interview, but what did she say? Read on to find out more.

What did Scarlett Johansson say about being private?

Despite being a public figure and having relationships with Ryan Reynolds and Colin Jost, she remains off social media. In her interview, the Avengers star spoke about how the co-founder of her beauty brand The Outset Kate Foster tried to get her to join social media.

The interviewer asked her how close she got to joining, and Johansson said: “I got close enough to talk to my therapist about it. I was like, ‘I guess this is something I need to do’. But it goes against my core values.”

She is not the only celebrity to not be on social media. Emma Stone and Brad Pitt are famously not on social media.

Then, onto the interesting part: Universal Pictures, the distributor of Jurassic World: Rebirth asked her to join social media.

The 40-year-old shut down the decision to join the online world. On the day of her interview, she recalled receiving an email from Universal asking if she’d consider going online. “I mean, even today, I got an email from Universal Pictures, and they’re like, ‘Hey, would you consider joining Instagram in tandem with the release of Jurassic World: Rebirth?’ I get a lot of pressure to join social media,” the actress said.

On the matter, she said people urging her to join social media “makes her think” can she do it without compromising herself. However, it’s not like the actress isn’t on social media posts. For her clean beauty brand, she does appear in some of their posts. She’s like Selena Gomez or Ariana Grande with their beauty brands, just without socials!

Scar-Jo understands the business appeal

However contrary to her personal opinion on social media, she understands it from a business standpoint. “I’m totally there. It’s funny and fun and minimally invasive,” she said about appearing on The Outset’s social media accounts.

Speaking about part of the reason not to join, she said it is also because she does not enjoy social media, she doesn’t want to join. The actress doesn’t appear worried about how the film (Jurassic World: Rebirth) will do. Overall, the Jurassic Park franchise has earned over $6 billion at the box office worldwide. Jurassic World: Rebirth will be fine!

Privacy for her and her children

Later in the interview, Johansson spoke about her fondness for privacy in her children’s lives. She has two children. She said: “The thing about being a public figure is that the idea of being recognizable and celebrated feels fun, but then you can never stuff it back in the bottle. The reality of it is there’s a massive loss to that, you know? So I think preserving that for as long as possible until it’s someone’s choice, that’s the choice I make as far as my kids go.”

Moving onto herself, she also spoke about how when she is not at events she declines to take photos with fans. On why she chooses to do that she says she does not always want to be identified at a certain time or place.

Good on her for having her own back and sticking up for herself. Privacy is important even for the most famous people.
